The 6-foot-6, 200 pound right-hander from Joliet Catholic comes in at No. 6 with 8,154 page views during the 2014 calendar year. Committed to Vanderbilt before throwing a varsity pitch this spring and has continued to impress on a national level. Currently ranked No. 1 in Illinois and No. 5 overall in PBR’s coverage area, Fellows helped lead the Hilltoppers to an undefeated IHSBCA Summer State Title in 2014.
Fellows sat 90-91 mph for a majority of the fall, holding the velocity deep in games as well. He pairs it with a swing-and-miss, late breaking low 80’s slider, one of the best secondary offerings in the Midwest. Fellows reportedly touched as high as 94 this fall at the WWBA Underclass World Championship in Ft. Myers, FL.
Here’s a look at a Fellows performance from this fall at the Kernels Invitational in Cedar Rapids, Iowa pitching for Elite Baseball Training.
Drake Fellows Scouting Report
Gave up four straight singles to start the game, but limited the damage to one run thanks to a strikeout on an 81 mph slider and a double play to short. Fastball sat 88-90 mph early on, touching 91, paired with a hard, late breaking slider at 79-82 mph, the best secondary pitch in the class. Also flashes a 79-83 mph changeup, and shows the ability to throw all three pitches for strikes, with excellent feel out front. Delivery gives some professional scouts pause, as he takes his eyes off home plate and can get rotational with lower half when front leg straightens out, but consistently has shown the ability to repeat his delivery and throw strikes. Did not allow a hit after the first inning finishing with six strikeouts, one walk, and only one earned run. Premium strike thrower with 62 of his 88 pitches for strikes, 22-for-30 first pitch strikes.
