Illinois has a strong group of catchers in the 2014 class and Papierski is in the thick of it. At an Underclass Invitational Showcase in January 2012, Papierski showed power from both sides of the plate and it was clear that he was one of the top prospects in the 2014 class. He represented the Midwest this summer at the Area Code Games, having a stronger batting practice session from the right side, but still improved each round from the left side.

He is teammates with LHP Jake Latz, who is also committed to LSU, giving Lemont a strong battery for the 2013 season.
