A Michigan State recruit, Troop is a legitimate two-way prospect for the next level as a first baseman and left-hander. At the Class of 2014 Showcase in October 2012, Troop was 6-foot-4 and about 180 pounds and showed off his athleticism and projection. Working out of a balanced delivery, he pitched just 80-83 mph with his fastball, but had some run on it and showed good feel for a 72-75 changeup. He also had solid footwork around first base and showed good bat speed at the plate.
The following summer, Troop was invited to play with USA Baseball at the 17U National Team Development Program. He now checks in at 195 pounds and added some velocity to his fastball, sitting 84-86 with a sharp curveball in the mid 70s. While he doesn’t have a lot of arm speed, Troop does hide the ball well behind his back leg, preventing hitters from picking it up too early.
