St. Bede Knocks Off Westmont, Advances to 2A State

LISLE, IL - St. Bede senior Gabe Braboy held Westmont hitters in check with a two-pitch mix as it got past Westmont 7-0 in the Class 2A Super-Sectional on Tuesday at Benedictine University. Braboy went 6.1 innings with eight strikeouts, five hits, and two walks. He attacked the outer-half of the plate from a high ¾ slot.
Senior Matt Szczepaniak and sophomore Nick Plankenhorn provided the offense for the Bruins. Szczepaniak 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI.Plankenhornwent 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and a double.
Westmont SS Charlie Donovan showed good range defensively, displaying his strong arm across the infield. The left-handed hitting Michigan recruit was 1-for-4 at the plate in his final high school game in his illustrious four-year career.
Westmont finished third in the Class 2A state tournament last year. St. Bede now advances to the 2A quarterfinals on Friday in Peoria.
