The Prep Baseball Report's Preseason ID showcase took place on Sunday February 16th at the Romeoville Athletic Center in Romeoville, IL. 111 prospects completed a pro-style workout for the PBR Illinois Scouting Staff, several of whom were new to PBR.

Homewood-Flossmoor 3B Percy Walters leads the list with fluid footwork and a strong arm. Andrew Rodriguez comes in at No. 2 showing a powerful left-handed swing with a strong build and 91 mph exit velocity.

Top Corner Infield Prospects

1. Percy Walters, 3B, Homewood-Flossmoor, 2016
6-foot, 177-pound, right-handed hitting third baseman. Athletic build. In the field has a long arm action from an over the top arm slot. Above average arm strength with fluid footwork, decent actions, and good on the backhand. Threw 85 mph across the infield. At the plate hits from a narrow, crouched setup with a short stride. Gap to gap hitter with a short level swing path and extension. Showed a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.70.

2. Andrew Rodriguez, 1B, Oak Forest, 2016
6-foot-4, 225-pound, left-handed hitting first baseman. Large, strong frame. In the field has a long arm action from a high ¾ arm slot, with slower actions. Threw 76 mph across the infield. At the plate hits from a tall, open stance with a short stride. Power hitter who looks to pull with fluid rhythm and a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 91 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.19.

3, Jake Pomykalski, RHP/1B, Lincoln-Way East, 2017
6-foot-4, 210-pound, right-handed hitting 1B/RHP. In the field has a long, loose arm action. Carry on throws with fluid footwork while playing thru the ball. Threw 81 mph across the infield. At the plate hits from a balanced, open setup with a smooth load, and short stride. Showed good power at the plate with a long, level swing path. Strong thru contact with 90 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.29. On the mound works from a ¾ arm angle with a long, loose arm action, and regular effort. Tall and fall online delivery with some rhythm. Fastball showed run and sat 81-83 mph. Curveball showed sweeping actions at 66-68 mph. Changeup flashed sink at 70-72 mph. Threw a knuckleball at 69-71 mph.

4. Vince Schwartz, 1B, Oswego East, 2016
6-foot-1, 170-pound, right-handed hitting first baseman. Strong, athletic frame. In the field has a short arm action from an over the top arm slot. Good footwork around the bag. Threw 69 mph across the infield. At the plate hits from a tall, balanced setup, smooth load, and a short stride. Line drive, power hitter with an uphill swing path, and good extension. Showed good feel for the barrel. Showed strength thru contact with 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.44.

5. Stephen Hill, 3B, Lockport, 2016
6-foot-1, 195-pound, right-handed hitting third baseman. Strong build. In the field has a long arm action from a high ¾ arm angle, and average arm strength. Plays thru the ball well with good body control. Threw 79 mph across the infield. At the plate hits from a wide, balanced stance, slight leg kick, short stride, with average balance. Gap to gap, line drive hitter with a short, uphill swing path, and a little stiffness. Showed strength thru contact with 89 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.55.

Jonathan Barlas, RHP/3B, Andrew, 2016
5-foot-11, 185-pound, right-handed hitting RHP/3B. Strong build. In the field uses a low ¾ arm slot. Threw 73 mph across the infield. At the plate hits from wide, balanced setup, toe turn load, with a short stride. Line drive, pull hitter wit average bat speed and a short, level swing path. 74 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.43. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm slot with a long arm action. Level shoulder throughout delivery with regular effort. Fastball flashed run and sat 75-77 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape and sat 63-66 mph. Maintained arm speed on straight changeup that sat 70-71 mph.

Jason Behnke, 1B, Metea Valley, 2016
6-foot, 205-pound, right-handed hitting first baseman. In the field has a short arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Shuffle and throw with average hands, ok footwork around the bag. Threw 73 mph across the infield. At the plate hits from a balanced stance with a short load and average balance. Opposite field hitter with a short, level swing. 78 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.50.

Michael Fossali, 1B/LHP, Batavia, 2016
6-foot-2, 185-pound, left-handed hitting 1B/LHP. In the field has a long arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Some accuracy with average arm strength and average hands. Threw 74 mph across the infield. At the plate hits from a balanced setup, loads back, with a long stride. Showed some strength thru contact with 83 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.03. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Online delivery with some rhythm and a square landing, and a weak front side. Fastball sat 74-78 mph. Threw curveball for strikes with 1-7 shape at 65-67 mph. Threw a straight changeup for strikes at 67-70 mph.

Emilion Guitron, 1B/RHP, Lyons Township, 2016
5-foot-11, 210-pound, right-handed hitting 1B/RHP. In the field has a short arm action from a high ¾ arm slot, some accuracy, with average arm strength. Threw 75 mph across the infield. At the plate hits from a narrow, balanced stance, with a high hand set. Short stride, with average balance, and a long, uphill swing path. 80 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.80. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle, with a short arm action, and regular effort. Tall and fall delivery, lands on heel, with an open toe. Threw fastball for strikes that sat 75-76 topping out at 77 mph. Curveball showed 11-5 and sweeping shape that sat 62-66 mph. Threw straight changeup for strikes that sat 71-73 mph.

Rayme Hamilton, 3B/RHP, Mattoon, 2017
5-foot-10, 160-pound, right-handed hitting 3B/RHP. In the field has a long arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Plays low to the ground with slower footwork. Threw 73 mph across the infield. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short load and a short uphill swing path. 73 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.19. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long, stiff arm action. Tall and fall, online delivery, level shoulders throughout with a square landing. Fastball with occasional sink sat 70-72 mph. Worked with a curveball that showed slider shape and sat 62-65 mph. Threw curveball foe strikes. Changeup showed arm side run and sat 65-66 mph.

Anthony Herron, 1B, Simeon, 2018
6-foot, 217-pound, right-handed hitting first baseman. Strong build. In the field has a short arm action from an over the top arm slot, good body control. Threw 64 mph across the infield. At the plate hits from a tall, open stance, loads to backside with a short stride. Line drive, pull hitter with a short, uphill swing path. 79 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.86.

Jake Heyman, LHP/1B, Glenbard East, 2016
5-foot-10, 170-pound, left-handed hitting LHP/1B. Lanky, athletic build. In the field has a short arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Average arm strength with a clean exchange, picks throws well at 1^st. Threw 79 mph across the infield. At the plate hits from a tall, balanced setup, with a short stride. Line drive, hitter with an uphill swing path. 79 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.68. On the mound works from an over the top arm angle, with a long arm action, and regular effort. Tall and fall delivery, some rhythm, closed shoulders, with slight crossfire action. Glide step from stretch. Gets good downward angle on his fastball, that flashed some run and sat 78-82 mph. Threw curveball for strikes that showed 1-7 shape and sat 66-69 mph. Changeup for strikes sat 70-74 mph.

Jared Komarynsky, 3B, Neuqua Valley, 2018
5-foot-11, 175-pound, right-handed hitting third baseman. In the field has a long arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Plays low to the ground with some lateral agility. Threw 75 mph across the infield. At the plates hits from a spread out, open stance, with a short stride. Drops back knee on load with a long, uphill swing path. 79 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.40.

Ryan Kordik, RHP/3B, Johnsburg, 2017
6-foot, 170-pound, left-handed hitting RHP/3B. In the field has a long arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Threw 70 mph across the infield. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a long, uphill swing path. 74 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.17. On the mound showed a 3 pitch feel from a high ¾ arm angle, with a long arm action. Tall and fall online delivery with a square landing. Fastball flashed some run and sat 72-73 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape and sat 58-60 mph. Straight changeup sat 67-68 mph. Will continue to improve with maturity.

Ricky Malmfeldt, 3B, Joliet Central, 2017
5-foot-10, 190-pound, right-handed hitting third baseman. In the field has a long arm action from a ¾ arm slot. Threw 65 mph across the infield. At the plate hits from an open stance, with average balance, and a long swing path. 70 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.11.

Tripp Paris, 3B, Bartlett, 2016
6-foot-1, 190-pound, right-handed hitting third baseman. Lanky, athletic build. In the field has a short arm action from a high ¾ arm slot, with slower actions. Threw 78 mph across the infield. At the plate hits from an open stance, with average balance. Long, uphill swing path with extension, good bat speed. Showed strength thru contact with 84 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.63.

Michael Pastuovic, 1B/ LHP, York, 2018
5-foot-10, 135-pound, switch-hitting 1B/LHP. In the field has a long arm action from a low ¾ arm slot. Average hands with slower footwork. Threw 72 mph across the infield. Switch hitter with good feel from both sides. Similar mechanics, tall setup with a leg lift trigger, short stride, raises hands on load. 73 mph exit velocity right-handed and 72 mph exit velocity left-handed. Ran the 60 at 8.14. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm slot with a long arm action. Drop and drive delivery, stays high on the front side. Lands on heel with an open toe. Fastball flashed sink and sat 73-75 topping out at 76 mph. Curveball showed 1-7 shape at times and sat 59-62 mph. Showed arm on changeup that flashed sink at 62-64 mph. Projects as he continues to mature.

Colin Rogiers, RHP/1B, Rock Island Alleman, 2018
6-foot-2, 180-pound, right-handed hitting RHP/1B. Lanky Build. In the field has a short arm action from a high ¾ arm slot and a long exchange. Threw 70 mph across the infield. On the mound works from an over the op arm angle with a long arm action. Uphill, closed shoulders, with an online delivery and square landing. Fastball sat 76-79 mph. Curveball with 12-6 shape sat 60-63 mph. Changeup sat 64-67 mph.

Trevor Sefcik, 3B, Wauconda, 2017
6-foot, 205-pound, right-handed hitting third-baseman. Strong build. In the field has a short arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Some accuracy with average arm strength, solid backhand. Threw 78 mph across the infield. At the plate hits from a wide, balanced setup, with a short stride, and average balance. Opposite field, line drive hitter with an uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 84 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.38.

Alex Steinbach, 3B/RHP, Plainfield North, 2017
6-foot-3, 175-pound, right-handed hitting 3B/RHP. Lanky, athletic frame. In the field has a long arm action from an over the top arm slot, showed good actions on the backhand. Threw 74 mph across the infield. At the plate hits from a wide, balanced stance, with a short stride, and average balance. Uphill swing path and flashed above average bat speed. 83 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.59. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with average arm speed and a stab in the back. Tall and fall delivery with some rhythm. Straight fastball sat 74-76 topping out at 77 mph. Curveball sat 67-69 mph. Changeup flashed sink and sat 69-70 mph.

Ben Swords, 3B/RHP, Freeport, 2017
5-foot-11, 195-pound, right-handed hitting 3B/RHP. In the field has a short arm action from a high ¾ arm slot, and slower actions. Threw 76 mph across the infield. At the plate hits from a narrow, open stance, with a toe tap to back foot stride. Pull hitter with a long, uphill swing path. 83 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.78. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm slot and occasionally comes from over the top. Short arm action with good balance. Tall and fall, online delivery with some rhythm.
