Recent Texas Christian commit Cal Coughlin’s performance at the event will be talked about extensively over the next few weeks during our coverage, and it starts with setting an event record with 98 mph exit velocity. Equally impressive is that he posted 91 mph exit velocity from the left side of the plate as well. Providence’s Mike Madej also impressed swinging it from both sides of the plate with authority. Normal’s Alec Trela and Gibault’s Jordan McFarland both proved to be physical presences in the batter’s box and posted 96 mph exit velocity, while also displaying plus power potential during batting practice.

Coughlin set an event record topping out at 93 mph, but even more impressive is that he sat 91-92 mph with an 82-85 slider, perhaps the top secondary offering of the event. Lemont’s Garret Acton (St. Louis commit) hit 91 mph numerous times throughout his bullpen, and Notre Dame’s Sam Ferri, also a University of Notre Dame commit, sat at 90 mph throughout his bullpen. Ferri also had a banner day, both on the mound and behind the plate.
