By Ryan Quigley
Illinois Scouting Director
Metamora’s Ethan Skender, ranked No. 6 in Illinois’ 2015 class, No. 63 overall, has long been known for his outstanding hitting ability. The Kansas State signee, and MLB Draft hopeful went on a tear at the plate last week for the No. 18 ranked Redbirds, who currently sit at 24-5. Skender’s performance has earned him this week’s Porsche Exchange Player of the Week honor for May 11-May 18.
For the week, Skender was 9-for-13 at the plate, with four doubles, two home runs, seven runs scored, and six RBI in a win over Bloomington, two wins over Pekin, and one loss to Normal U-High.
On the year the Redbirds shortstop is hitting an astounding .533 with 19 doubles, three triples, five home runs, and 29 RBI. He’s being considered as a top ten round talent in the June MLB Draft, signability put aside.
Let’s take a look at Skender’s scouting report from before this year’s Super 60 Showcase:
Scouting Report
Skender has a knack for performing on the big stage. For the second straight year, he lit up opposing pitchers at the World Wood Bat Championship in Jupiter, FL. As a junior, he went 8-for-18 with 10 runs scored in seven games, helping the Reds Midwest Scout Team to the playoffs. He picked up where he left off in 2014, going 6-for-12 and showing power with a double and three-run walk-off home run. He also didn’t strike out in five games and stole six bases. Skender is a solid runner, but moves well with good body control. He has a strong arm that plays anywhere on the diamond. At the plate, he shows advanced bat speed and takes aggressive cuts.
For his efforts, Skender has been named the Porsche Exchange Player of the Week for the week of May 11-May 18.
The Porsche Exchange salutes Skender’s hard work and success.
