CARY, IL- In the championship game of the Cary-Grove 4A Sectional, No. 19 Jacobs took down No. 3 Boylan 8-2.
With a 2-0 lead heading to the bottom of the sixth, Jacobs looked to add on to their lead, and they did in a big way. The Golden Eagles managed to work five walks bringing in two runs for a 4-0 lead. With the bases still loaded Boylan went to the pen and Matt Kozlak greeted the Titan reliever with a bases clearing double to push the score to 7-0.
Boylan could not get much going off Jacobs starter Ryan Sargent, who worked six scoreless innings allowing just four hits. Sargent worked 84-86 mph with has fastball, reaching back for 88-89 when he needed it. Sargent also did his job at the plate going 1-3 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored.
The Titans scratched across two runs in the top of the seventh, on a two run double off the bat of Ian Parentice. But, it would not be enough in the 8-2 loss.
Jacobs improves to 27-10 on the season and advances to the Super Sectional. Jacobs will meet Stevenson on Monday at Aviators Stadium in Rockford. Boylan finishes the season with a record of 32-2-1.
