RHP Jake Godfrey (Providence Catholic HS, IL), one of the top senior prospects in the country, will no longer be attending Notre Dame. Godfrey had verbally committed to the Fighting Irish right before the start of his junior year. He is now back on the recruiting market and will reportedly be visiting Louisiana State, UCLA and Vanderbilt.
At 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, Godfrey has a physical presence on the mound and backs it up with a strong arsenal that captures the attention of scouts and college recruiters alike. His fastball ranges from 89-93 mph with some sink and he commands it well. His best secondary offering is a sharp slider at 77-80 and a changeup that sits in the high 70s with fade.
Godfrey is the No. 1 overall 2014 prospect in the Prep Baseball Report’s 10-state coverage area and is ranked 41st in the National Top 50, released in November. He has the ability to pitch his way into the first three rounds of the draft this spring. He pitched at several big events last summer and is a well-known prospect, so recruiters won’t be short on information.
