Naperville Central Upsets No. 13 Lincoln-Way North

Naperville, IL – Two non-conferences opponents faced off on Wednesday morning as Naperville Central (3-1) hosted No. 13 Lincoln-Way North (3-2). The game was a back-and-forth affair until the Redhawks broke it open in the bottom of the fourth inning, putting up four runs, to take a 5-2 lead. They would not look back, eventually winning 7-3, over the visiting Phoenix.
The Phoenix jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after a two out single by Nicholas Figus started a rally in the top of the first. Figus would later score on an RBI single to left-field by Ryan Anderson.
With Lincoln-Way North leading 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth, the Redhawks bats got going. Jon Barker and Michael Nerger hit back-to-back singles to start things off. Later in the inning Beau Buchanan and Conor Joyce delivered the big blows, hitting back-to-back two run doubles, to break the game open for the Redhawks.
RHP Blake McClung started and got the win on the mound for Naperville Central. He went 4 innings, scattered 7 hits, two earned, striking out five. Redhawk RHP Charlie Walzer came out of the pen and did not surrender an earned run in three innings of work, allowing three hits. Buchanan led the way for the Redhawk’s offensively going 2-for-4 with 3 RBI.
DH Jimmy Quinn had a big day at the plate for Lincoln-Way North in a losing effort. Quinn went 3-for-4, with a double, RBI and run scored.
