MLB Draft: Day Three Analysis
June 11, 2015
By Ryan Quigley
Illinois Scouting Director
The 2015 June MLB Draft culminated with rounds 11-40 yesterday, and numerous prospects with ties to Illinois high school baseball ended up being selected. All told, 52 prospects from Illinois were selected, 10 of which are current high schooler’s represented in the PBR Class of 2015 rankings.
Highly ranked players such as Charlie Donovan (Westmont), Ethan Skender (Metamora), Nick Dalesandro (Joliet Catholic), Fitz Stadler (Glenbrook South), Kyle Ostrowski (Lincoln-Way North), Brenden Spillane (Wheeling), and Malcolm Grady (Homewood-Flossmoor) were selected late on the second day, at times due to sigability issues.
If a high school player is committed to a major Division-I university on a large scholarship, often times it is difficult for a major league organization to buy him out of that commitment. Also, at times prospects put their “number”, or price tag, outside of what teams are willing to pay. Thus, a prospect who likely would have been selected within the top ten rounds with signability put aside, falls to the later rounds because they wanted top three round money.
Let’s take a look at the prospects drafted on day three, with links to their Prep Baseball Report profiles:
