Labor Day Challenge: Top Tier Preview

The 2015 Labor Day Challenge will take place September 5 – 6 at Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood, IL. This year’s event features five high level teams with prospects from around the state of Illinois and beyond.

Throughout the week we will bring you a quick preview as to what to look for out of the participating teams. Today we highlight Top Tier.

Top Tier is highlighted by their 2017 class. One of the better left-handed bats in that class will be on display in Wake Forest commit 1B Bobby Seymour (Mount Carmel). RHP Austin Marozas (Plainfield South, 2017) is one of the hotter commodities in that class right now. Marozas has recently been 87-89 mph with a hard and heavy fastball. His sinker/slider type combination from a ¾ slot should miss a ton of bats this weekend.

Other ranked 2017s of note are SS Zach Frieling (Chicago Christian) and OF Michael Gunartt (Niles West).

Top Tier also adds 2019 left-handed hitter Matt McCormick (St. Laurence) for the weekend. McCormick has a chance to put himself on the map this weekend as one of the top 2019 bats in the state.
