Chicago, IL – Two rivals faced off on Tuesday afternoon as No. 8 Brother Rice traveled to take on No. 17 Marist. Brother Rice (8-2) seized control from the get go and captured a 13-0 non-conference victory.

The Crusaders mounted a 5-0 lead after three and was never seriously challenged the rest of the way. In the top of the seventh the Crusader offense got going once again, scoring eight more runs, leading to the convincing victory.

During one stretch of the seventh inning, seven straight batters reached base for Brother Rice, highlighted by a three run double by Jack Guzek. Guzek finished the day 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored.

Crusader starting pitcher Ryan Kutt, an Illinois recruit, set the tone on the mound, never allowing the Redhawk offense to get a runner past second base in his six innings of work. Kutt picked up the win going six innings, striking out nine, walking one and scattering four hits. Kutt also had two hits at the plate. Infielder Mike Massey added two doubles and three RBI for the Crusaders.

Relief pitcher Jack Snyder was one of the bright spots for Marist (6-2). Brother Rice managed just one hit off of Snyder, who allowed no earned runs, walked three and struck out three during his four innings of work out of the bullpen. At the plate, Tom Wade led the Redhawks with two hits.

More in-depth player notes will be posted in the Illinois Scout Blog later.
