No. 4 St. Rita 7, Simeon 1
The Mustangs rolled to their sixth consecutive win behind University of Tennessee-bound Tyler Halas (2-0), on Thursday. Halas fired four scoreless innings at the Wolverines, allowing three hits with three strikeouts. Connor McAlilly allowed an unearned run and two hits, in his three innings of relief to nail down the save. The future Volunteer Halas, helped himself at the plate with a single and an RBI. Mateo Zunica continued his torrid hitting with two more hits and an RBI. Cal Greenfield had a perfect 2-for-2 day at the plate with an RBI for the Mustangs.
No. 44 Pleasant Plains 8, Rochester 4
Pleasant Plains (1-1) rolled past the Rockets behind Dalton Nibbie and Dillon Skinner. Nibbie singled and had two RBI for the Cardinals while Skinner singled and had one RBI. Cole Hamilton and Cole Greer each chipped in with a pair of hits and runs scored.
Auburn 8, Morrisonville 6
Auburn (4-1) opened up a 7-0 lead after three innings and hung on to defeat Morrisonville at Auburn on Friday. Tristan Weaver was 3-for-3 with a double and drove home one Trojan run. Peyton Weiss added a single and two RBI while Nate Brauer chipped in with a pair of singles and an RBI.
Bartonville Limestone 4, Brinfield 0
Bartonville Limestone (3-0) blanked Brimfield behind a combined two-hitter from Tanner Rhoades and Sam Koeppel. Rhoades (2-0) allowed hits in his stellar four innings on the mound, with eight punchouts, to pick up the win. Koeppel fired three no-hit innings with four strikeouts to complete the two-hit whitewash. James Welton doubled and drove home a run to lead the Rocket attack.
Bloomington 8, Lincoln 2
The Purple Raiders picked up their first win of the season behind UIC-bound Charlie Cerny (1-0). Cerny scattered three hits over his solid six inning stint on the mound. Cerny had nine punchouts. WIU-bound Deion Thompson had three hits and three RBI while sophomores Randy Lawrence and Ryan Rose combined for three hits and three runs for Bloomington (1-2).
Buffalo Grove 9, Minnehaha MN 8 (8 innings)
Buffalo Grove (2-4) outslugged its Minnesota foe, in eight thrilling innings in Florida. Ben Moran led the Bison attack with four hits, including a double and had two RBI. Joey Pinakidis, tripled, singled and drove home two Bison runs, while John Carpinelli chipped in with a double and also plated two Bison runs.
Champaign Centennial 11, Montclair Kimberley Academy 4
Champaign Centennial (4-1) smashed MKA behind Lucas Martin. Martin was 2-for-2 at the plate with five big Charger RBI. Austin Stilger allowed no earned runs and four hits in his four quality innings to pick up the win on the mound.
Granite City 7, Dupo 2
Granite City (3-2) trailed 1-0 as the game entered the Warrior bottom of the fifth. The Warriors exploded for three in the fifth and four more in the sixth, to roll to the victory in Granite City. BJ Neisporek went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI to lead the Warriors. DJ Miller had a perfect 4-for-4 day with a triple and two runs scored for GC. Gabe Jarman allowed one run and two hits in his solid five innings of work to pick up the win.
Niles North 5, Southridge (ORE) 0
Niles North (5-0) blanked the Oregonians behind a combined two-hit shutout from Cameron Benesch (2-0) and Eric Wheeler. Benesch allowed one hit in his five scoreless innings, striking out nine to pick up the win. Wheeler struck out three in his two scoreless one-hit innings to finish the Viking victory. Benesch helped himself at the plate with a single and an RBI and Tyler Egan chipped in with a pair of doubles.
Niles North 6, Ringgold (PA) 2
The Vikings improved to 6-0 on the season with their second win of the day in Florida. Niles North (6-0) opened up a 5-0 lead and coasted to the win behind Tyler Egan and Chris Jeffries. Egan singled and drove home two Viking runs while Jeffries also singled and plated one Viking run. Anthony Sanchez chipped in with a single and a double for North. Jack Foreman picked up the win on the mound for the Vikings, allowing one earned run and three hits, with four strikeouts, in his three-inning stint.
Rockford Christian 11, Reed-Custer 6
Rockford Christian (4-0) rallied past Reed-Custer (3-1) on Friday. The Royal Lions exploded for seven runs in the sixth, to erase a 6-1 Comet lead and added three more runs in the seven to blow past RC. Alec Powell had a pair of singles for the Royal Lions, while Luke Jointer singled, tripled and also plated a pair of Rockford Christian runs. Bryan Truitt fired four shutout innings of relief, allowing just two hits with six strikeouts to pick up the win.
Rockford Christian 10 Mercer County 0
Alec Powell (2-0) and Nolan Gazouski, combined for a five-inning no-hitter in Rockford Christians (5-0) second win of the day. Powell struck out five and walked four. Jake Kellerman singled, doubled and plated a pair while Jake McClellan drove home three Royal Lion runs without the benefit of a hit.
Waterloo 3, Trenton Wesclin 2
Cole Milam tripled and scored the eventual winning-run in the bottom of the sixth on a balk, as Waterloo (1-0) slipped past Trenton Wesclin in the Bulldogs season-opener. Alan Laskowski doubled and plated a Bulldog run while Noah Thaggard (1-0) fired two hitless innings in relief to pick up the win.
