No. 8 St. Laurence 17, No. 18 Providence 4
St. Laurence (18-2; 7-1) scored 10 runs in the top of the fifth to put this one away in five innings. Seniors Mike Miller and Kevin White led the Vikings onslaught. Miller was 3-for-4 with three doubles and four RBI. White was also 3-for-4, falling a triple shy of hitting for the cycle with four RBI. NIU-bound RHP Brad Wood went the distance to improve to 5-1 on the season. On Wednesday the defending Class 4A state champion Mount Carmel Caravan (17-2; 8-0) invade Viking Field in Burbank to meet the defending CCL-Blue champion Vikings of St. Laurence.
Glenwood 4, Rochester 1
Glenwood (13-9; 6-4) rolled past the Rockets behind Indiana-bound RHP Brian Hobbie and senior LHP Konnor Aherin. Hoobie (4-2) allowed a run and five hits in his five inning stint on the mound. Aherin nailed down the save with two perfect innings in relief.
Marian Catholic 5, Nazareth Academy 3
Marian Catholic (12-9; 3-2) scored three times in the top of the seventh and survived a seventh-inning rally to get out of La Grange Park with the win. Senior 2B Luiscarlo Avila ripped a two-run double to center to give the Spartans the lead 4-2. Senior Pat Schmidt followed with a double to right which scored Avila to make the score 5-2 Spartans. Nazareth (15-6; 3-2) scored a run in the bottom of the seventh against Spartan starting and winning pitcher Michael Bainbridge (1-0), who ended the game with a flourish fanning the last Roadrunner batter of the game. Bainbridge allowed two earned runs, five hits with five strikeouts to improve to 1-0 on the season.
Alton 4, No. 11 Edwardsville 2
Alton (16-9; 3-5) handed the Tigers their first SWC loss at Gordon Moore Park in Alton. The Redbirds scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to erase a 2-0 Edwardsville (18-4; 7-1) lead. Two of the runs were unearned. 6-foot-7 Bryan Hudson shut the door on the Tigers the rest of the way and finished with a three-hit masterpiece. Hudson (6-3) had 10 punchouts.
Tuesday's action was packed full of walk-off winners and upsets.
