Gurnee Preseason I.D. Showcase: Stats Posted

The Prep Baseball Report’s Gurnee Preseason I.D. Showcase took place on Sunday February 22nd at Bat Speed Academy in Gurnee, IL. The showcase featured 105 prospects from the 2015-2018 classes who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff.

Several prospects impressed including Grant HS OF/RHP Michael Bengtston, who was one of the top all-around statistical performers at the event. Bengston ran 4.18 seconds from home to first, threw 90 mph from the outfield (tops at the event), and posted the second highest exit velocity off the tee at 91 mph.
New Trier’s Max Rosenthal, recently named the No. 5 overall prospect at the Underclass Invitational Showcase, impressed with his power hitting potential and arm strength behind the plate. Rosenthal topped both statistical catching categories, throwing 82 mph from the crouch and posting an event low 1.92 pop time to second base.
Several pitcher’s also made their name’s knows to PBR, including Wauconda teammates RHP Kevin Malisheski and LHP Kyle Harmon. Malisheski is an uncommitted 2016 prospect who sat in the 84-86 mph range with one of the event’s best breaking balls at 70-72 mph. Harmon was a previously unranked 2015 LHP who is committed to McHenry County College. He’s currently ranked No. 253 in Illinois’ 2015 class after impressing with a lively 80-82 mph fastball and, like Malisheski, a hard 70-72 mph slider.
