No. 3 Normal West 13, Decatur MacArthur 2
Normal West (28-3; 12-0) wrapped up a perfect run through the Big 12 Conference and won for the 23rd consecutive time crushing the Generals in five innings. Wildcat junior Reed Rogers had a perfect 4-for-4 day in Decatur, hitting a double triple and plating a pair of runs to lead the West attack. Senior Josh Appel improved to 2-0 with the win on the mound. Appel fired a one-hitter at the Generals.
On Saturday afternoon, the Big 12 champions will be in Western Springs to take on Lyons Township. The Lions, picked No. 1 by the Prep Baseball Report in the preseason, are one of the hottest teams in the state right now. They are 18-5 in their last 23 games as once again head coach George Ushala’s Lions are heating up at the right time, just like last year when they finished second in the state. The Lions won the Class 4A crown in 2011.
Normal 5, Bloomington 3
Normal (19-11; 7-5) defeated rival Bloomington (24-9; 9-2) behind the best performance of the season from Ironman Alex Zadoks. Zadok shut-down the hard-hitting Purple Raider attack allowing just three hits in his stellar 5 1/3 innings of work. Junior Matt Bly hammered a two-run bomb for the big blast for the Ironmen. Bloomington falls to 24-10 overall and 9-3 in the Big 12.
Southwest Suburban Blue
No.10 Lockport 10, Joliet Central 0
Lockport (25-7; 11-3) ripped the Steelmen in five innings to claim its second consecutive Southwest Suburban Blue co-championship. SIU-Edwardsville-bound RHP Eric Martens improved to 8-0 on the mound with a two-hit shutout. Jeff Duschene hit a three-run bomb to highlight his 3-for-3 day and finished with four RBI.
Joliet West 3, Bolingbrook 0
Joliet West (19-9; 11-3) blanked the Raiders behind a two-hit shutout from John A. Logan Community College-bound RHP Jake Herron (8-1). With the win the Tigers, for the second year in a row are co-champions with Lockport of the Southwest Suburban Conference Blue Division. Herron struck out 11 Raider hitters in his shut-out performance. Tiger leadoffman Larry Holman went 3-for-3 with an RBI. Kevin Ganzer had two hits and an RBI while Alex Lakatos had a double and plated the other Tiger run.
Southwest Prairie
Minooka 9, Plainfield North 5
15 in a row for the Indians as Minooka (23-7; 18-3) swept away old SWPC nemesis Plainfield North on Thursday. Indian leadoffman junior Neal Tyrell punished the Tigers for the second straight day going 4-for-4 with a solo-shot for Minooka. Lewis University-bound Joe Carnagio also went 4-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Max Brozovich chipped in with a single and two RBI for the SWPC champs.
Southwestern
Belleville West 5, Collinsville 2
Belleville West (20-10; 11-3), with help from city-rival East, wrapped up an outright SWC championship on Thursday. Belleville East defeated O’Fallon 1-0, so with the Maroons victory at Collinsville on Thursday the Maroons are the 2013 SWC champs.
Belleville East 1, O’ Fallon 0
O’ Fallon (23-11; 10-4) lost an opportunity for a fourth consecutive SWC Championship, when the Panthers were stunned by the Lancers on Thursday. With O’Fallon’s defeat, Belleville West wins the SWC championship outright.
Central Suburban Conference Championship
Glenbrook North 5, No. 7 Glenbrook South 2
Glenbrook North (21-11) bested district rival GBS (23-6) for the CSL championship.
Fox Valley Valley
McHenry 2 No. 8 Huntley 1
Huntley (23-5; 14-5) was stunned by McHenry again, this time in McHenry and were denied an outright FVC Valley championship. The Red Raiders will share the 2013 Valley Division crown with
Crystal Lake South (17-5; 14-5). The Gators claim their second consecutive co-Valley championship. Last year the Gators shared the Valley with Prairie Ridge.
North Suburban League Championship Game
No. 13 Mundelein 5, Wauconda 1
Mundelein (25-4) defeated Wauconda (17-5) to win the NSC Championship for the 13th-ranked Mustangs. UIC-bound Mustang ace RHP Mitch Schuluwitz (9-1) went the distance, striking out 11 Bulldog hitters. SIU-bound Will Farmer led the Mustang attack with two hits and two RBI.
Southland
Rich Central 4, Crete-Monee 0
The Olympians (24-4; 14-1) won their second consecutive Southland Conference crown in style blanking Crete-Monee (19-7; 13-2)
South Suburban Crossover
Oak Lawn 7, TF North 2
Oak Lawn (14-12; 13-6) rolled past the Meteors behind starting and winning pitcher Matt Dunne.
Upstate 8 River
Batavia 4, Streamwood 3
Batavia (24-6; 19-5) wrapped up the River Division championship in thrilling fashion, slipping past Streamwood in nine thrilling innings.
St. Charles East 12, Elgin Larkin 4
St. Charles East (21-9-1; 18-6) swept away Larkin but fell one game behind U8C River champ Batavia.
Class 1A Morgan Park Academy Regional
Morgan Park Academy 9, Luther North 7
The host Warriors from Morgan Park Academy (6-11) outslugged Luther North behind freshman Henry Arnold. Arnold led the Warrior attack with three hits and drove home two big Warrior runs. Freshman RHP Sam Bell fired two scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win. Warrior closer, Jack Timberlake slammed the door on LN in the seventh to nail down the save.
Morgan Park Academy will take on Christian Liberty Academy of Arlington Heights at 11 on Saturday for the Regional championship. The Warriors are in search of their third regional crown in the school’s history and their first since 2008.
