Class 4A Regional Semifinals

LINCOLN-WAY CENTRAL

No. 5 Lincoln-Way North 11, Shepard 1
Lincoln-Way North (32-2-1) crushed Shepard in six innings on Friday behind senior 1B Reed Hero. Hero was 4-for-4 with two singles two doubles three runs scored and two RBI. Erik Eggert chipped in with a single and three RBI. Phoenix ace RHP Kevin Smith allowed a run and three hits in five innings to pick up the win. Smith (8-1) had seven strikeouts.

Lincoln-Way Central 4, Crete-Monee 1
Lincoln-Way Central (16-13)

TF NORTH

No. 7 Lockport 9, Marist 1
Lockport (29-7) crushed Marist (14-16) behind SIU-Edwardsville-bound Evan Martens. Martens (8-0) fired a four-hitter at the Redhawks with three strikeouts. Austin Kolmodin led the Porter attack with a 4-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI. Senior 3B Doug Matthews had two singles and two RBI while Porter leadoffman Dan Sullivan chipped in with three hits. 

Marian Catholic 2, Homewood-Flossmoor 1
Marian Catholic (22-14)

OSWEGO

Downers Grove North 4, Plainfield Central 1
Downers Grove North (20-11) defeated the Wildcats behind a five-hit gem from RHP Mike O’Malley.

O’Malley struck out six and walked four allowing the one earned run. Joe Provenzano led the Trojan attack with two hits and two RBI. Trojan C Matt Zaboudil chipped in with a double and an RBI.

Metea Valley 5 Hinsdale South 1
Metea Valley (17-14) surprised the West Suburban Conference Gold Division champs behind a solid six-inning performance from RHP Jose Gomez. Gomez allowed a run and six hits to pick up the win.

Mustang leadoffman Tamal Kumar doubled and plated a pair of Mustangs runs while Mike Mooney was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI.

OAK PARK

No. 24 Oak Park 8, Lincoln Park 0
Oak Park (26-11) opened defense of the Huskies 2013 Class 4A state championship with an easy victory over the Lions. Junior Sam Cottingham-Beard led the Huskie attack with a 4-for-4 day with three RBI. Pat Clifford chipped in with two hits and an RBI while junior Alex Rice (2-3) threw a three-hitter at LP.

RICHARDS

Richards 8, Andrew 0
Richards (18-18) crushed Andrew behind a four-hit shutout from Bulldog RHP Alex Villafuerte. Jim Wujcik, Jake Kendryna and Danny Estrella all had two hits and two RBI to lead the Bulldog attack. C Charlie Zeschke chipped in with four singles. 

FENWICK

Fenwick 8, De La Salle 5
Fenwick (14-16) outlasted the Meteors behind the booming bat of Teddy Rogozinski.  Rogozinski had a pair of doubles and drove home three Friar runs. Friar C Bobby Hogan had two hits and drove home a Friar run.

ST. VIATOR

Fremd 1, St. Viator 0
Fremd (19-11) blanked the Lions behind a three-hit masterpiece from Viking RHP Jon Escobar. Escobar fanned five and waked two in his shut-out performance. Matt Isola and Randy Wilt each had a pair of hits to lead the Viking attack.

BARTLETT

Bartlett 2, St. Charles North 0
Bartlett (15-14) shutout the North Stars behind a four-hit gem by RHP Colin Nowak. Nowak (2-4) fanned five and walked two. Justin Blanchett’s sac-fly in the fifth plated the lone run of the contest

GENEVA

Geneva 12, Glenbard West 2
Geneva (20-15) crushed the Hilltoppers in five innings behind sophomore Nate Montgomery, who had three hits including a bomb and drove home two Viking runs. Senior RHP Jordan Touro allowed one earned run in his four quality innings to pick up the win. Touro fanned seven. 

HINSDALE CENTRAL

Waubonsie Valley 2, Hinsdale Central 0
Waubonsie Valley (19-14) won in thrilling fashion when Tyler Hasper hammered a walk-off two-run bomb in the bottom of the eighth to lead the Warriors past the hosts. Senior LHP Troy Fumagalli allowed three hits in his seven shutout innings of work on the mound. RHP Julian Langford instantly became the winning pitcher in the game when Hasper’s bomb left the premises in Hinsdale. 

LAKE ZURICH

Libertyville 6, Lake Forest 2
Libertyville (23-11-1) rolled past Lake Forest behind Kevin Calamari, who doubled and plated three big Wildcat runs. Connor Simpson was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Libertyville. 

CARMEL

Stevenson 6, Rolling Meadows 5
Stevenson (19-11) slipped past Meadows on sac-fly off the bat of Patriot sophomore Willie Bourbon in the bottom of the sixth. Bourbon also had a double for the Patriots. Zach Novoselski continued his torrid hitting with two more hits and an RBI while Austin Black chipped in with a single and an RBI.

NOTRE DAME

Notre Dame 5, Lane Tech 1
After losing close game after close game to quality competition, the Dons of Notre Dame (15-21) ousted Jackie Robinson North Division champion Lane Tech on Friday. RHP Ryan Nikolich was outstanding firing a five-hitter at the JR-North champs. Nikolich fanned eight Indian batsmen. Senior

Danny Hyde led the Don attack with  a single and two RBI. 

Loyola 3, Niles North 2
Loyola (14-19) 

SANDBURG

Providence 6 Brother Rice 0
Providence (19-17) rolled past Chicago Catholic League Blue rival Rice behind a two-hit shutout from junior RHP Jake Godfrey. The Notre Dame-recruit, Godfrey struck out eight Crusader hitters and walked three. Junior Phil Kunsa singled doubled and plated a Celtic run while junior 3B Dylan Rosa chipped in with a single and an RBI. (READ STORY)

ARGO

Simeon 6, Argo 3
Simeon (21-7) slid past the host Argonauts, behind a complete-game gem from Wolverine RHP Darien Clifton. Clifton fired a seven-hitter at the Argonauts with seven strikeouts. Sophomore Terrance Robertson doubled and plated a pair of Wolverine runs. University of Louisville-bound CF Corey Ray was 2-for-2 with a ribbie for the two-time Chicago Public League champions.

On Saturday the Wolverines will face Lyons Township (23-10) for the Argo Regional Championship at 11. The PBR’s Drake Skleba will be in Summit with all of the action.

ST. RITA

Morton West 4, Whitney Young 2
Morton West (12-17) slipped past Whitney Young behind a six-hitter from Mustang RHP Elias McMahon. Sergio Villalobos had three hits including a pair of doubles and plated a run to lead the MW attack. 

VON STEUBEN

New Trier 4, Leyden 3
New Trier (19-13-1) scored two runs after two out in the bottom of the seventh, to stun the Eagles at Northeastern Illinois University on Friday. Frankie Nicholas doubled home Max Thoma with the tying run and then scored the game-winner, on a walk-off single from Trevian Ernie Roth. RHP Kevin Douaire fired a four-hitter at the Eagles Only one of the three Eagle runs were earned.

CLASS 3A REGIONAL SEMIFINALS

GLENBARD SOUTH

Latin 2 St. Joseph 0
Latin (15-5) blanked St. Joseph on Friday behind Dartmouth-bound Jackson Bubala. Bubala fired a two-hitter at the Chargers with 16 strikeouts to improve to 9-0 on the season. 

KANELAND

Kaneland 6, Sandwich 0
Kaneland (13-17) scored five times in the second inning to roll past the Indians on Friday. RHP Curtis Thorson fired a six-hit shutout while Thorson’s batterymate C Tyler Carlson had two hits and an RBI for the Knights. 

LAKES

Lakes 1, Antioch 0
Lakes (16-18) won a thriller over North Suburban Conference Prairie Division rival Antioch (15-11)

on Friday. The Eagles scored the only run of the game in the first inning and LHP Justin Demand did the rest. Demand fired a three-hit shutout at the Sequoits.
