GRAYSLAKE, IL- Cary-Grove fought through cold, wind, and downpours to defeat Grayslake Central 8-2 in a Fox Valley Conference Crossover on Friday afternoon. Cary came off the bus swinging scoring 3 times in the top of the first inning off Grayslake starter David Llorens. Wyatt Mascarella and Jimmy Perkins delivered RBI hits in the first and that was all starter Larkin Hanselmann would need in the victory. Hanselmann worked 6 plus innings scattering 6 hits and allowing just 2 runs to earn the victory.
After the first inning double by Jimmy Perkins, Llorens settled in retiring 14 of the next 15 hitters with the lone batter reaching on a dropped third strike. With a leadoff walk in the top of the 6th Llorens was taken out of the game giving way to reliever Ethan LaBeck. The Trojans welcomed the change scoring three times highlighted by a 2-run double off the bat of Willie Hartke. Cary added two more insurance runs in the top of the 7th on a 2-run double by Jimmy Perkins.
Grayslake scored twice in the bottom of the third by way of a throwing error and an RBI single by catcher Sam Nozicka.
Cary-Grove improves to 7-5-2 on the year including 3-0 in FVC play. The Trojans hit the road again tomorrow to take on Lake Park. Grayslake Central falls to 5-5 on the year and return to action tomorrow against Vernon Hills at home.
