December 17, 2014
By Rob Allison
Iowa State Director
Drew Yanecek, 3B/RHP, Cedar Rapids Prairie, Class of 2015
PBR: Why did you choose Kirkwood CC?
YANECEK: I felt comfortable with the coaching staff, community, and campus. I believe Coach Rima and Coach Belk can help me reach my personal and baseball goals.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
YANECEK: I was also receiving interest from Southeastern Community College, Iowa Central Community College, Winona State and SE Missouri State.
PBR: Where did they first see you? How did your relationship develop with the coaching staff?
YANECEK: My first contact with them was during high school baseball last summer. Since then I have continued to talk with their baseball staff and current players.
PBR: What role do you expect to play your first year on campus?
YANECEK: I plan on being a starter on the pitching staff with hopes of being one of the top 3 in rotation.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
YANECEK: My Dad has had the biggest impact on me as a player. He’s coached me through most of my developmental years.
PBR: What have you worked on/improved since last year?
YANECEK: I’ve continued to work on improving my velocity, control, and game command. I’ve also developed what I consider to be an above average slider.
PBR: Who is the toughest player that you have faced in Iowa?
YANECEK: Hard to pick one out right now. I’ve had the opportunity to play with and against many good players in Iowa.
PBR: What are your thoughts on the recruiting process? Any advice for future players in your position.
YANECEK: Take your time and get a feel for where and who you feel most comfortable with; make sure the academic programs and areas of interest match your requirements.
