With better extension through baseball, middle-in, will drive baseballs out of yard. 96 mph exit velocity off tee. Controlled actions in outfield. Solid fielder. Long easy arm action. Clean mechanics. Above avg. carry. 86 mph arm strength. University of Iowa commit.

PBR: Why did you choose the University of Iowa?
MASSNER: I chose the University of Iowa because it has become a top tier program. I really enjoy the energy of the city and I get along great with the coaching staff and other players, they really make me feel at home!

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
MASSNER: Another school I considered going to was the University of Pittsburgh. They a lot of interest in recruiting me.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?
MASSNER: I first met the Iowa coaching staff through my fall league coaches during my Sophomore year. From there they started coming to my high school games and we continued to talk. My relationship developed with them as we stayed in contact throughout the last two years.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?
MASSNER: I feel very relieved that the process of picking a school is over; I am excited to just focus on my future at Iowa and being a Hawkeye!

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
MASSNER: There was no one deciding factor that put my choice over the top; but Iowa City made me feel at home and the coaching staff immediately made me feel like a part of the family. They have been very easy to talk to and show they care about me.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
MASSNER: I definitely wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for my father. He raised me to not only become the ball player I am today, but he also taught me to be a respectful, responsible adult. He motivated me to push myself out of my comfort zone and reach goals I thought were impossible.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?
MASSNER: I think the recruiting process was simple yet stressful at times. Decision making is always difficult, especially ones this huge, but after being on campus and meeting the coaches at Iowa my decision was much easier.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?
MASSNER: Throughout my Freshman year, the coaching staff plans to continue to develop me as an outfielder and improve my hitting skills. Hopefully I can earn some playing time!

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
MASSNER: My most memorable baseball moments would be traveling to Jupiter, Florida the last two Fall seasons and being able to play in front of hundreds of pro scouts and managers as well as playing against some of the best players in the nation. Also, playing in the Perfect Game All-American Underclass Games in San Diego my Junior year was a great experience.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?
MASSNER: One of the best players I have played with is Joey Polak. We started playing against each other at age 13 and quickly became travel teammates and friends!
