Prep Baseball Report's IA Underclass Prospect Games event took place on Monday, August 1, 2016. The event was held at Duane Banks Field; on the campus of the University of Iowa. The event featured 2018, 2019 & select 2020 prospects from Iowa who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff. Thank you to the players, parents, my staff and the University of Iowa coaching staff.

There were a number of great individual performances this year at the IA Underclass Prospect Games.

infield Prospects

Gavyn Ashley, SS/RHP, Muscatine, 2018
5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 6.55 runner. Square stance with simple load, out front at contact, solid contact, works middle of field, 77 mph exit velocity. Shows some actions in field, tends to sit back on balls, fields deep into body, stiff arm action from ¾ slot, 78 mph arm across infield.

Drew Beazley, SS/RHP, Johnston, 2018
5-foot-11, 155-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.34 runner. Open stance, strides to square, easy load into swing, low hand slot, transfers weight well through contact, works middle of field, 82 mph exit velocity. Shows solid actions in field, soft glove, adequate range, accurate arm across, 83 mph arm across infield. Strong follow in IA 2018 class.

Jackson Bennett, 1B/RHP, Beckman Catholic, 2018
6-foot-4, 200-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Strong projectable build. 7.25 runner. Open stance, strides to square, front heel turn trigger, present strength, flashes pop in bat, long through hitting zone, tends to lean back at contact, 90 mph exit velocity. Easy actions at first with good glove, range, and accurate arm, 83 mph arm from first base. Runs just enough, has clean arm action, move to outfield might be beneficial.

Jacob Bockenstedt, RHP/3B, Cedar Rapids Washington, 2018
6-foot-1, 170-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.21 runner. Spread stance, front heel turn trigger, rotational bat path, short to contact, good hand-eye coordination, mid/pull approach with ability to use whole field, consistent solid line drive and ground ball contact, 83 mph exit velocity. Good footwork in field, ok actions, soft glove, quick release, accurate to bag, long arm action, 83 mph arm across infield.

Ian Boline, SS, Alburnett, 2018
5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.01 runner. Tall stance, pre-set hand and body load, collapses into contact, has good hands to baseball, solid line drive and fly ball contact, 68 mph exit velocity. Soft glove, fields and throws flat-footed, requires additional arm strength, accurate to bag, 71 mph arm strength across infield.

Logan Burg, SS, Cedar Rapids Prairie, 2019
5-foot-10, 145-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 6.7 runner. Square stance, body load, clean bat path, solid bat speed, out front at contact, flashes pop in bat, 80 mph exit velocity. Fields and throws flat-footed occasionally, soft glove, works through back-hand well, above avg. arm for grade, short clean arm action, solid carry and accuracy to bag, 77 mph arm strength across infield.

Nathan Chasey, RHP/SS, Gilbert, 2018
6-foot-1, 175-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.18 runner. Balanced swing, short to contact with quiet head, stays through at contact, consistent solid contact, gap to gap approach, occasional pop in bat, 80 mph exit velocity. Solid footwork, soft glove, clean arm action, some actions, accurate arm across, 81 mph arm across infield.

Jordan Collins, SS, Bondurant-Farrar, 2019
6-foot-1, 155-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.03 runner. Square stance, crouched upper half, long stride, length to contact, pull approach, line drive and ground ball contact, 78 mph exit velocity. Flashes athleticism, long strides and good range, hands are hard presently, arm needs to improve, 66 mph arm across infield.

Connor Crabill, RHP/3B, Dubuque Hempstead, 2018
5-foot-9, 185-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.76 runner. Open stance, strides to square, high hands, stays on top of baseball, line drive approach, aggressive swinger, gap to gap approach, hard contact, 85 mph exit velocity. Tends to field and throw flat-footed, decent glove, fields deep occasionally, accurate arm with carry to bag, 76 mph arm across infield.

Aiden Crowley, IF/RHP, Iowa City West, 2018
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.13 runner. Balanced setup, strides slightly across, cuts off lower half, bat path dips underneath to contact, gap to gap approach, 83 mph exit velocity. Active feet, plays with energy, avg. glove, stiff shoulder in throwing motion, sinking action to bag with solid accuracy, 77 mph arm strength.

Jace Davidson, LHP/1B, Pocahontas, 2019
6-foot-1, 160-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.7 runner. Square stance, double tap trigger, line drive swing plane, mid/pull approach, high stiff finish through contact, 78 mph exit velocity. Active fielder, good glove, works through baseball well, accurate arm, 75 mph arm strength.

Duncan Davitt, RHP/3B, Indianola, 2018
6-foot-3, 180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.89 runner. Wide square stance, body load, short leg kick trigger, minimal weight shift through contact, pull approach, out and around at contact, 85 mph exit velocity. Fields and throws flat-footed, funnels ball deep into body occasionally, usable glove, solid carry and accuracy on throws, 81 mph arm strength across diamond.

Bryce Dean, 1B, Madrid, 2018
5-foot-10, 175-pound right-handed hitting first baseman. 7.53 runner. Body load, double tap trigger, some whip in bat, uphill path, good hand eye coordination, line drive and fly ball contact, 75 mph exit velocity. Active footwork, works through ball, sound glove, accurate throws, good footwork around bag to receive, 73 mph arm strength.

Kaleb Donels, 1B, Cedar Rapids Washington, 2018
6-foot-2, 145-pound left-handed hitting first baseman. 7.68 runner. Leg kick trigger, active hand load, low hitting slot, some rhythm and looseness in hands, stays through mid/away, minimal weight shift through contact with straight legs, 75 mph exit velocity. Late glove presentation, easy actions, soft glove, long clean extended arm action, accurate to bag, 71 mph arm strength.

Owen Durham, RHP/3B, Carlisle, 2018
6-foot-1, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 6.79 runner. High hands, stays on top of baseball, front heel turn trigger, slight arm bar, drags through zone occasionally, spray contact with line drives and ground balls, 85 mph exit velocity. Pretty light on feet, good reactions, works through baseball, clean quick arm action, solid carry and accuracy to bag, 76 mph arm across diamond.

Carter Frey, SS/RHP, WDM Valley, 2018
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.21 runner. Open stance, strides to square, flat line drive bat path, solid extension through contact, flashes hard pull contact, 77 mph exit velocity. Active feet, stiff glove, shows some actions, clean arm path, solid carry and accuracy, 74 mph arm strength.

Graham Geraty, RHP/3B, Dowling Catholic, 2019
5-foot-10, 200-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.89 runner. Open stance, strides to square, clean line drive bat path, good weight transfer, inconsistent contact, pulls off occasionally, 80 mph exit velocity. Soft glove, active feet, works around bag well, clean arm action, 72 mph arm strength.

Brendan Gogulich, 2B, Davenport Central, 2018
5-foot-7, 165-pound right-handed hitting infielder. 7.13 runner. Pre-set load, hard stride to contact, aggressive swinger, pull approach, line drive bat path, 78 mph exit velocity. Active feet, good lateral range and quickness, stiff glove actions, clean arm, 73 mph arm strength across.

Sam Goodman, SS/RHP, Western Dubuque, 2019
5-foot-11, 155-pound switch-hitting 2-way player. 7.3 runner. Spray contact, with solid pop in bat, and mid/pull approach from left-side. Longer stride right-handed, loses posture at contact, solid contact, mid/away approach, with line drive and ground ball contact, 79 mph exit velocity. Solid footwork, tends to sit back, soft glove, quick release on throws, solid arm strength and carry for age, 80 mph arm strength.

Brody Harding, SS, Moline (IL), 2019
5-foot-10, 165-pound left-handed hitting shortstop. Best infielder at event. 6.97 runner. Compact setup, open stance, aggressive hitter, line drive swing plane, stays through at contact, can get long at times, good rhythm in box, 77 mph exit velocity. Reads hops well, plays through ball, above avg. actions for age, accurate arm, throws from multiple angles, 81 mph arm strength. Already receiving significant D1 interest.

Andrue Henry, 3B/RHP, Dubuque Senior, 2020
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 9.01 runner. Square stance, compact swing, stays on and through baseball, works middle of field well, aggressive swinger, transfers weight through contact producing solid line drive and ground ball contact, 81 mph exit velocity. Solid footwork with easy actions, glove works, quicker release, good carry and accuracy on throws, 74 mph arm strength.

Brayden Hoops, SS, Storm Lake, 2018
6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed hitting infielder. 7.13 runner. Pre-set load, slight hand movement, stiff swing path through zone, slight uphill path, pull approach, 77 mph exit velocity. Fields close to body, usable glove, shows lateral mobility, solid carry with avg. accuracy to bag, 80 mph arm across diamond.

Skyler Juhl, 3B/RHP, Pekin, 2018
6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.41 runner. Moves well on balls of feet, shows range, above avg. glove- shows ability to pick baseball, accurate arm, 73 mph arm strength across diamond. Starts hands out front, active knee to knee trigger, narrow base, spins up and through zone, inconsistent spray contact, 80 mph exit velocity.

Will Kranz, SS, Davenport Central, 2019
5-foot-6, 140-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.68 runner. Strides across body, good hands to baseball, lacks balance in swing, consistent solid contact, mid/pull approach, producing line drives and ground balls, 78 mph exit velocity. Active feet, avg. glove, makes routine plays, short repeatable arm action with quick release, 75 mph arm strength.

Clay Kuhlemeier, 1B, Rockford, 2018
5-foot-7, 165-pound right-handed hitting first baseman. 7.47 runner. Inconsistent BP, open stance, narrow base, long to contact, 83 mph exit velocity. Solid glove, avg. feet, works through ball, good footwork around bag, short arm action with accuracy, 71 mph arm strength.

TJ Mahoney, MIF, Des Moines Lincoln, 2018
5-foot-8, 140-pound left-handed hitting infielder. 7.35 runner. Open stance to start, strides to square, easy load, quiet head, line drive swing plane, mid/pull approach, solid line drive contact, 80 mph exit velocity. Good footwork with above avg. hands in field, active fielder with good lateral range, quick release with solid accuracy, 73 mph arm strength.

Avery Martensen, 1B, Monticello, 2019
6-foot, 157-pound right-handed hitting first baseman. 6.8 runner. Slight hand load, compact swing, stiffer path through zone, rotational lower half, mid/pull approach, 79 mph exit velocity. Fields flat-footed, usable glove, stiff ¾ arm action, solid footwork around bag, 70 mph arm strength.

Cam McDonald, SS, Hall Township, 2018
6-foot-3, 165-pound right-handed hitting infielder. #66 ranked player in IL 2018 class. Tall lean build with projection. 7.39 runner. Shoulder load, knee to knee trigger, compact swing, strides across body, locks off lower half, short to contact, works middle of field, avg. contact, 86 mph exit velocity. Above avg. carry and accuracy to bag, 85 mph arm strength, plays with actions, shows ability to throw from multiple angles, glove and feet work.

Wyatt Morgan, 3B, Pleasant Valley, 2019

Peyton Williams, 1B/LHP, Johnston, 2019
6-foot-5, 205-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. Narrow open stance, easy stride to square, some length in load, direct to contact, creates bat speed, quiet head, consistent hard contact, flashes well above avg. power to middle/pull side of field. Solid defender at first base. Accurate throws to target. Comfortable around bag with good footwork.
