Fall Unsigned Senior Showcase: Outfield Evaluations

Prep Baseball Report Iowa held the Fall Unsigned Senior Showcase in W. Des Moines, IA  at WDM Valley High School on October 11th, 2014.  The event was for 2015 graduates with Iowa and Nebraska players represented. In our coverage we have broken down the prospects by their respective position.

OUTFIELDERS

Trey Beckman, OF, Cedar Rapids Prairie, 2015
6-foot-1, 195-pound outfielder. 7.05 60 time. Left-handed hitter with rhythm from low hand set. Starts open and strides into contact. Showed pop to pull side of field. Short to contact with lift. 82 mph exit velocity. Moves well in outfield. Takes appropriate routes and angles. Plays with energy. Uses lower half and front side on throws. 78 mph velocity from outfield.

Dalton Vergith, 1B/OF, Lincoln North Star, 2015
6-foot-2, 200-pound first baseman/outfielder. 7.53 60 time. Profiles as RF/1B. Moves well enough; has agility to play corner outfield. Low 80's arm with carry and accuracy. Not great runner. Ton of leverage at plate. Linear hitter. Gap to gap. Line drives with back spin. Fights with the barrel little bit; once he uses hands more in swing will produce big results. 85 mph exit velocity. More than adequate to play 1B. Big surprise at event. One of top prospects.

Tyler Renken, OF, North Scott, 2015
5-foot-7, 140-pound outfielder. 7.41 60 time. Right-handed hitter with easy load and good timing. Balanced stride and line drive swing plane. 78 mph exit velocity. Average to ok actions in the outfield. Fields and catches routine balls. Simple throwing mechanics with accuracy to target. 75 mph velocity from outfield.

Ryan Cassady, OF, Bettendorf, 2015
5-foot-10, 155-pound outfielder. 7.47 60 time. Right-handed hitter with short balanced stride. Simple line-drive swing plane. Makes consistent solid contact with 82 mph exit velocity. Showed average actions in outfield; 70 mph velocity from outfield from low ¾ arm slot.

Mitchell Kramer, OF, Harlan, 2015
6-foot-1, 160-pound outfielder. 7.32 60 time. Uses pre-set hand with a slight leg kick knee to knee stride for a trigger. Fluid easy swing with pull approach. Controlled attitude at plate. 72 mph exit velocity. Moves easily in the outfield with soft hands and light on his feet. Ability to slow game down and make plays. Throws with low elbow causing uphill momentum. 62 mph outfield velocity.

Trevor Phillips, OF, Mediapolis, 2015
5-foot-9, 175-pound outfielder. 7.5 60 time. Right-handed hitter with easy rhythm and simple swing. Flat bat path through zone. Appropriate weight shift through swing. Line drive gap to gap approach. 78 mph exit velocity. Showed average actions in outfield. Arm slot varied. Tends to throw flat footed from outfield with lack of momentum. 73 mph from outfield.
