Prep Baseball Report's Eastern IA Prospect I.D. event took place on Sunday, March 6, 2016. The event was held at Eastern Iowa Sports Facility in Monticello, IA. The event featured prospects from the 2016-2017-2018 and 2019 classes who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and multiple coaches in attendance.
Each day we will breakdown the players in attendance by position; highlighting the top player in attendance; and culminating with our list of the Top Prospects Overall at the event.

Justin Foy, RHP, Rockridge (IL), 2017
6-foot-3, 185-pound right-handed pitcher. Projectable body. Controlled rocker step with high leg kick delivery. Uncontrolled front side and swings front leg open in stride. Good life on fastball with varying run and cut action at 83-85 mph. 12/6 breaking ball has sharp break with depth- with ability to land in zone for strikes. Above avg. command of changeup with solid fade and flat action.

Gage Burkhart, RHP/2B, Davenport West, 2016
5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Up-tempo delivery on mound. Some collapse at balance point, lands slightly open to plate, with avg. extension to plate. Clean arm action with short arm circle. Fastball was 76-78 for strikes. Flashes depth and sharp break on 11/5 breaking ball. Changeup is an above avg. pitch with sink and fade; thrown with good arm speed. 4.22 home-to-first time. Wiry strong in box. Double tap trigger to hit. Falls over plate creating inverted bat path. Pull approach. Some present ability requiring fine tune of hitting mechanics. 83 mph exit velocity. Avg./ok hands in field. Tends to sit back on groundballs. Avg. range and foot quickness. Accurate arm across infield with solid carry to bag. 76 mph arm strength.
William Christophersen, RHP/OF, Pleasant Valley, 2018
6-foot-4, 180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Controlled delivery on mound with solid balance and direction. Avg. extension to plate- falls off to first base side. Over-the-top slot with occasional downhill action on fastball. Live arm- projects to continue to develop velocity. Fastball was 85-87 mph with avg. feel for zone. Flashes sharp break on 12/6 breaking ball. Avg. fade and action on changeup with slight cut. 4.31 home-to-first time. Lanky build with some wiry strength. Uncontrolled swing. Aggressive approach. Creates bat speed. Hard contact to mid/oppo gap. 87 mph exit velocity. Avg. actions fielding in outfield. Shows arm strength with above avg. carry on throws and 84 mph velocity.
Connor Crabill, 3B/C/RHP, Dubuque Hempstead, 2018
5-foot-8, 180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 4.63 home-to-first time. Leg kick trigger. Some extra movement but has good rhythm to swing. Shows good pop in bat with loose hands. Will improve with greater extension through after contact. Shows ability to hit to all fields. 82 mph exit velocity. Shows good glove in field. Tends to field on heels. Needs to be more active, field with rhythm, and play through baseball. Throws are accurate to bag with above avg. carry at 80 mph. Solid set-up and glove presentation. Needs to improve strength receiving; sticking pitch in zone. Solid feet with mostly clean exchanges. Long release on throws. Shows solid arm strength. 2.28 pop time with 76 mph arm strength. Controlled delivery on mound, shorter balance, with good direction and lands closed to plate. Short clean arm action with moderate effort on fastball with downhill plane at 80-83 mph. Wraps breaking ball early; flashes avg./ok sharpness. Changeup has 2-seam action with flat run.
Kyle Cunningham, RHP, Clinton, 2017
6-foot-2, 165-pound right-handed pitcher. Projectable body on mound. Shows some looseness and athleticism in delivery. Good direction to plate with some extension on release. Slight front should tilt; pitches uphill occasionally. Clean arm action producing 74-76 mph fastball; topping out at 78 mph. 12/6 breaking ball has good shape. Solid fade on changeup. Follow in 2017 class.
Brady Donohue, RHP, Marion, 2017
6-foot-3, 165-pound right-handed pitcher. Lean body. Up-tempo delivery. Lands open to plate. Moderate effort with solid extension to plate. Fastball was 80-83 mph with slight run and showed good command of zone. Curveball had tight rotation with small break with avg./ok command. Changeup was firm with downhill action and solid feel for zone.
Sam Goodman, SS/RHP, Western Dubuque, 2019
5-foot-11, 150-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 4.31 home-to-first time. Open stance. Stride to square/ stride to hit. Leans over plate. Inverted swing plane with uphill path. Pull approach. Shows decent barrel control and solid contact. 71 mph exit velocity. Flashes good glove at times. Footwork is avg. in field. Shows some arm quickness with accuracy to bag. 76 mph arm strength. Controlled delivery with minimal balance point. Lands across body in stride. 2-piece arm action with stab in back and some wrap in arm action. Lively fastball was 77-81 mph with varying run and cut. Showed good feel for curveball with 12/6 shape and small break with depth. Cut action on changeup.
Gabe Hassman, RHP/1B, Southeast Polk, 2019
6-foot-2, 250-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Controlled delivery with balance. Upright on release with minimal extension to plate. Slight downhill action on fastball at 72-75 mph. Creates solid spin on curveball with 11/5 shape and throws for strikes. Avg./ok fade on changeup with downhill action. 4.87 home-to-first. Short stride. Short to contact with middle/away approach. Some stiffness to swing. Solid contact with avg. pop in bat. 74 mph exit velocity. Makes routine plays at first; with solid footwork around bag. Needs to improve on range. Short arm action. 66 mph arm strength.
Keller Hayes, OF/RHP, Harrisonville (MO), 2017
5-foot-9, 208-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Shows above avg. bat with strength. Quiet approach with clean bat path. Above avg. pop and shows ability to make hard contact to all fields. Stays on-down and through baseball consistently. 83 mph exit velocity off tee. Avg. defender in outfield. Fields on side of ball. Heavy feet. Short arm action with 70 mph throws to target. Up-tempo delivery. Flies open occasionally on release. Fastball was 73-75 mph on steep downhill plane. 12/6 breaking ball had gradual break at 63-66 mph. Flat action on changeup at 66-67 mph.
Jordan Jackson, C/RHP, Washburn Rural (KS), 2019
6-foot-2, 170-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 4.37 home-to-first time. Double tap trigger with crouched stance. Long bat path to contact. Shows avg. pop in bat. Needs to improve use of lower half in swing and create leverage at contact. 74 mph exit velocity. High set-up behind plate. Avg. strength for age receiving pitches. Avg. mobility. Needs to improve on throwing footwork behind plate. Long release on throws. 2.38 pop time with 70 mph arm strength. Choppy rhythm in delivery. Upright finish and minimal extension to plate. One-piece arm action producing fastballs at 73-76 mph. Inconsistent curveball at 61-63 mph. Circle change with split-action at 65-68 mph.
Tyrel Johnson, SS/RHP, Cedar Rapids Prairie, 2017
5-foot-6, 125-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 4.07 home-to-first time. Open stance. Gets to square with short stride. Line drive swing plane. Ball comes off barrel well. Stays down and through contact with quiet head. Middle/away approach with solid contact. 80 mph exit velocity. Shows avg/solid hands in field. Tends to sit back on groundballs but accelerates well after fielding towards target. Shows good arm across infield with accuracy to bag at 83 mph. Some athleticism to delivery with tempo and high leg kick. Lands across body in stride. Decent extension to plate on release. Running action on fastball at 76-79 mph. Has good feel for breaking ball with flashes of sharp 12/6 break in zone for strikes. Solid run, fade, and sink on changeup at 69-72 mph.
Clayton Lathen, LHP/1B, Eddyville-Blakesburg, 2016
5-foot-9, 150-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. Athletic build. Short arm action. Has body control in delivery. Shows avg/ok life on fastball at 71-73 mph. 11/5 breaking shows signs of being an above avg. pitch. Tends to slow arm on changeup; showing pitch early. 4.53 home-to-first time. Lean frame with loose swing. Clean bat path through zone with pull approach. Hips open early in swing; losing any power. 76 mph exit velocity. Decent glove and feet in field. Has some athleticism. Enough that OF might be option. Low throwing slot- sinking action on throws at 69 mph.
Ryan Manternach, 3B/RHP, Monticello, 2018
6-foot, 200-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 5.01 home-to-first time. Ok setup in box. Maintains posture to contact. Lifts up through contact. Lacks extension through contact creating groundballs and occasional low line drives. 81 mph exit velocity. Rigid actions in field. Avg. glove and feet. Flashes some arm speed on throws with carry to bag at 74 mph. Controlled rocker step with slight tuck and turn delivery. Long clean arm action with decent extension to plate on release. Occasional cut action on fastball at 70-74 mph; touching 75 mph. Shows some feel for 11/5 breaking ball in the zone. Inconsistent action on changeup at 66-68 mph.
Collin McCrabb, SS/RHP, Wilton, 2019
5-foot-11, 180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 4.47 home-to-first. Front heel turn trigger. Stays through baseball at contact. Shows some ability to hit. Strong for age. Middle approach with some pop to pull side of field. 84 mph exit velocity off tee. Avg. footwork and range in field. Slightly heavy feet. Plays through ball well. Solid glove. Long release on throws with average accuracy. 75 mph arm strength. Shows decent arm strength on mound for freshman. Uncontrolled front leg and lands across body in delivery. Ok command of fastball with downhill action and slight cut at 76-79 mph. Needs to continue to develop secondary pitches to add to mix.
Joe Morrison, RHP/2B, Muscatine, 2018
5-foot-11, 155-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Raw mechanically but showed good action on 3-pitch mix at event. Fastball was 75-78 mph with run and good command of zone. 12/6 breaking ball had sharp break; inconsistent around zone. Had solid command of changeup with good fade. 4.31 home-to-first. Choppy rhythm. Leans back at contact. Middle-away approach. Inconsistent contact off barrel. 82 mph exit velocity. Raw mechanically in field. Could improve with additional reps. Would like to see him work on rhythm, fluidity, and playing through baseball with better footwork. 76 mph arm strength across infield.
Ariel Rivera, 2B/RHP, Pleasant Valley, 2017
6-foot, 210-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Strong build. Flashes avg. pop in bat with middle/pull approach. Relatively simple mechanics with short leg kick trigger. 84 mph exit velocity. Tends to field on heels. Long release on throws. Slow twitch actions. Needs to improve quickness and range. 69 mph arm strength from low arm slot. Controlled delivery. Lands open to plate. Varying action on 70-71 mph fastball. 11/5 breaking ball is thrown for strikes. Inconsistent command of changeup around zone.
Carlos Rivera, 1B/LHP, Pleasant Valley, 2019
6-foot, 250-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 5.13 home-to-first time. Double tap trigger. Middle-away approach. Avg. pop in bat. Finds barrel. Long swing to contact. 76 mph exit velocity. Tends to field flat-footed. Solid arm across diamond. Ok footwork around bag receiving throws. 72 mph arm strength. Some rhythm in delivery. High leg kick in balance point. Very short arm action. Fastball was 71-73 mph. Curveball had 1/7 shape with inconsistent break. Changeup was 62-65 mph.
Ben Steidler, RHP/3B, North Scott, 2017
6-foot-3, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Simple delivery with decent body control. Lands across body in stride. Throws with short arm action and stiff shoulder. Upright finish with minimal extension to plate. Fastball was 80-82; touching 84 mph with slight downhill action. Curveball had side-spin creating cut action at 71-73 mph. Changeup was firm and flat at 77-78 mph. 4.4 home-to-first time. Front heel turn trigger. Deep load creating length to contact. Simple clean bat path. Middle of field approach. Solid contact with minimal power. 79 mph exit velocity. 76 mph arm strength across infield. Shows usable glove in field. Needs to improve footwork and playing through the baseball. Tends to field on heels. Avg. accuracy to bag with 76 mph arm strength.
Quinn Waterhouse, LHP, Bondurant-Farrar, 2018
5-foot-9, 125-pound left-handed pitcher. Some tempo to delivery. Short stride with good direction to catcher. Lands on stiff front leg; losing power from lower half. Longer arm action from high ¾ slot. Fastball was 67-70 mph. Curveball had early break with loose spin at 58-60 mph. Changeup is thrown for strikes at 62-64 mph. Mixes hard slider which projects better than curveball presently.
