Evan Reifert

Evaluation:  8/7/16- 6-foot-3, 180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Lean athletic build with wiry strength. Productive 2-way player in high school- strength will be on mound in college. Committed soon after event to NIACC. Controlled up to down delivery, long clean arm action, swings front leg down mound, solid extension to plate, live arm. Heavy cut action on fastball at 87-90 mph. Both curveball and slider have tight rotation and late sharp break. Consistently threw strikes with 3 pitches. Leans over plate, good bat speed, some length to contact, works middle of field, line drive contact, 93 mph exit velocity. Avg. actions in field, late glove presentation, has soft glove, makes up for avg. footwork and direction with above avg. arm and accuracy to bag, 85 mph arm strength.

PBR: Why did you choose North Iowa Area CC? 
REIFERT: I felt Coach Hergert connected with me and was really focused on making me a better player and trying to help me get to the next level.

PBR: What other schools were you considering? 
REIFERT: Iowa-they recruited me as a walk-on.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them? 
REIFERT: We first met on my college visit and then at two showcases.  We continued to talk after my visit, and I felt their program was a great fit for me.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school? 
REIFERT: Yes it’s a relief.  I feel I can focus on improving and tweaking my stuff to get better.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
REIFERT: The coach was only focused on one thing, which is to make players better and not just on the winning factor.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today? 
REIFERT: Nick Zumsande.  He helped me mechanically and mentally with the game.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult? 
REIFERT: I was unsure about the recruiting process.  It was difficult as I felt I had a great season and I didn’t receive much college interest during the season.  Once the showcases were over, I heard from colleges, but by then my head and heart had decided NIACC was the right place.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season? 
REIFERT: Developing me more as a pitcher and taking care of my arm.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date? 
REIFERT: I would have to say throwing my third no-hitter on the season this year and having my family there watching.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against? 
REIFERT: Spencer Van Scoyoc and Kyle Crowl.
