Q & A With Auburn Commit Austin Murphy

PBR sat down with Episcopal outfielder and Auburn University commit Austin Murphy.

PBR: Why did you select Auburn University and what do you plan to Study?

Murphy: Auburn’s campus has a certain atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable as soon as you step foot on its campus. Along with being able to play in one of the best conferences in college baseball and receiving a great education made it an easy decision to attend.

 

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Murphy: My coaches are expecting me to arrive and fight for a starting position as a freshmen and ultimately perform the best I can.

 

PBR: What is the biggest Adjustment you feel you would have to make playing next year in the SEC?

Murphy: I believe the biggest adjustment I will have to make as a player will be the speed of the game.

 

PBR: You have gotten a lot of attention from Pro Scouts are you willing to sign a pro contract ( if yes on what terms ) or is the plan is to attend Auburn University after graduation?

Murphy: Yes I am willing to sign a pro contract if the situation and terms are appropriate. As of right now I don’t believe I have any real set terms but I do know that if I don’t end up signing there is no problem because I will be going to play at such a high level of college baseball.

 

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment?

Murphy: My sophomore year we were playing Fernandina in the regional semifinal and we were losing by 1 in the bottom of the 7th. We had a runner on first and there were 2 outs with our leadoff guy up with a 2-2 count. The next pitch he hit a walk off homerun and we stormed home plate and practically all acted like 4 year olds. It was a feeling I am unable to describe.

 

PBR: What are your team goals for the season and personal?

Murphy: Our team really only has one goal and that is to win states. We don’t care how we do it as long as we get it done. As for myself personal goals I plan to showcase my tools and athleticism.

 

PBR: When your baseball career is over, how do you want to be remembered?

Murphy: I want to be remembered as the player who would play the game the right way and give all his effort on the field. As well as being the guy who was a good teammate.
