TAMPA – Plant hosted Wharton in a district matchup Thursday night in which Plant was able to come away with the easy victory 9-2. Plant showcased two highly ranked 2015 prospects, OF Kyler Tucker and RHP Jake Woodford, who both did not disappoint the large number of MLB scouts that came to watch them. Tucker hit a towering home run to right center that came off an effortless swing, and Woodford was sitting 90-93 mph with a sharp 79-83 mph slider. He went six innings and gave up one earned run and struck out four.

Plant was able to score two in the first off a Max Wadsworth (2015 3B/P) single. However, in the top of the second the Wildcats had a runner reach on an error and a single, and were both able to score on a wild pitch and then a passed ball.

The Panthers opened the game up in the third when they scored three runs – two off errors and one off a Cooper Dickens (2015 OF) single. After a couple of scoreless innings, Tucker struck with his three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to give Plant an 8-2 lead. The Panthers’ final run came off a Wadsworth RBI triple to help give them the 9-2 win.
