Every Friday National Scouting Supervisor Nathan Rode provides a roundup of insider recruiting information and commitments throughout the PBR coverage area: The Buzz. Click Here to take a look at this week’s National Buzz. With that in mind, let’s take an in depth look at some of the top unsigned prospects in the state of Florida with detailed scouting information.
Tyler Fagler, RHP, Berkeley Prep, 2016
2/20/15 - 6-foot-4 200 pound right hander with a tall, lean, projectable, and loose body. Young face and will easily add weight and strength. Takes ball out in line, and lands in line, and he has an over-the-top arm action that is loose and easy. His fastball has a good downward angle and he spots it up at 81-83 mph. He has a good curveball that got better as the game went on. It has a ¾ break, sharp and has good depth. He keeps it down in the zone and is able to command it. Throws it in all counts at 71-73 mph. Velocity should increase with maturity and strength. 6 IP, 7 K's, and 0 ER against Tampa Catholic.
Pablo Toranzo, RHP, Tampa Catholic, 2015
2/20/15 - 6-foot-5 200 pound right hander with a strong, physical body but looks like he could be 210-215. He only faced two batters against Berkeley but was 85-86 mph with his fastball but could get more with better extension. He has a short arm with a low elbow at release. There’s more velocity in the arm. He has visible strength, strong legs, and will add more weight.
Corey Mumaw, SS, Wesley Chapel, 2015
2/20/15 - Uncommitted Senior. 5-foot-11 170 pound infielder with a lean, athletic frame. At the plate he is upright in his stance, has a small separation/load, and a short, quick bat. He has a flat swing plane that consistently barrels up balls and he hits line drives and hard groundballs all over the field. At shortstop he has quick/light feet, soft hands, and a smooth transfer and release. He is a gamer that makes athletic plays and he plays aggressive. Has a good high ¾ arm slot and an average arm from short. Against Nature Coast Tech he was 3-5 with an RBI double.
Jorge Arenas, SS, Monsignor Pace, 2016
2/18/15 - 6-foot, 180 pound short stop who is a solid defender w/soft hands and an above avg ML arm. Makes the plays and gets rid of the ball for firm, accurate throws. Must see more of bat, but the glove alone gives him the ability to play at the next level.
12/7/14 SF Elite tryout - Athletic strong body with good actions in field and an above avg ML arm. Had quickness and some strength in bat. Limited range in the field. Ran a 7.2, 60. May end up at 3B or catcher when the body is done growing.
