RHP/1B Triston Casas (Walter C. Young MS, 2019) was one among over 300 players trying out for the prestigious South Florida Elite squad last weekend. He was also one that stood out among his peers. His peers being the class of 2019. Yes, that's right, Triston hasn't even been to high school yet and already is beginning to develop into one of the better young players in the South Florida area.
He is still a very young kid in a big 6-foot-4, 238-pound frame. He is already showing strength and bat speed at an early age with some looseness and quickness in his hands. He has some strength with power now and much more to come. He has a good plane and stays inside the ball well. He has some length with lift in his swing which helps him get the ball out of the yard.
On the mound he has a high 3/4 slot with a loose, easy working arm. The ball jumps out of his hand. His fastball has some tilt and is 83-84 mph with some deception. His curveball is a downer with very good rotation and already has some depth at 70-71 mph. And he threw plenty of strikes.
We'll have a long time to watch his development as Casas has a lot of upside and will be interesting to follow.
