Brandon and Bloomingdale opened up each teams' regular season Tuesday night at Brandon. This matchup showcased some solid pitching and multiple errors from both teams. Brandon starter, and 2016 grad, Antonio Velez worked fast through a scoreless first, showing a good arsenal of three pitches. In the bottom half of the first, Bloomingdale starter Daylon Owens gave up no runs after giving up two consecutive singles.
In the top of the second, Velez gave up an unearned run after Daylon Owens reached on an error and was later driven in by a Nate Chevalier single. Brandon was able to respond in the top of the second after right fielder Jordan Green led off with an infield single. Green was later able to score on a wild pitch after he advanced to third when Paul Houston reached on an error.
The Eagles and Bulls were tied 1-1 after two innings. In the top of the third, Doug Sandberg led off the inning for the Bulls with a walk. After a wild pitch and strikeout, Sandberg was driven in by Conrado Skepple who reached on an E3. Brandon was then able to respond in the bottom of third, that was started by Christian Montesinos reaching on an error. After a balk, Montesinos was able to score from second off an E4 hit by Nick Rinaldi. Velez was then able to help his own cause by laying down a sac bunt and reaching first on an error as well. Jerry Biller then drove in Rinaldi on a fielder's choice.
After three innings, Brandon led 3-2. Relievers for both Brandon and Bloomingdale were able to come in shut down their opponents as Jack Hubbard threw four scoreless innings for Brandon and Tommy McLaughlin threw 2 2/3 scoreless for Bloomingdale.
The cold weather seemed to effect the bats of both squads all night as the Eagles produced four hits and the Bulls only had two. The final score was Brandon 3, Bloomingdale 2.
