BLOOMINGDALE – After taking down Bloomingdale in the opening round game of their district tournament, Newsome had to take on an Alonso team that received an opening round bye. Unfortunately for the Wolves, Alonso came out hot and won the game handily 10-2. 2015 LHP and Texas Signee Nick Kennedy led the way on the mound for the Ravens by throwing four innings and giving up two earned runs with nine strikeouts. 2016 RHP Ryan Fernandez also pitched well in relief as he threw three innings, gave up no earned runs and struck out four. Offensively, 2017 IF Jared DeSantelo went 2-3 with three RBI’s and 2017 OF/LHP and Florida commit Jordan Butler went 3-4 with four RBI’s to help pace Alonso.
Alonso was able to get on the board early with DeSantelo driving in two with a double that was lined down the right field line. In the second they really pulled away as the Ravens scored six runs, three of which came off a deep single to right by Butler.
In the fifth, Newsome was able to get two back as Kennedy began to have some control issues and walked a few batters. Fernandez, however, came in and kept the damage to a minimum by only allowing two of those runners to score. Alonso was able to get those two runs back in the fifth and sixth, both on wild pitches, and hold on for the 10-2 win.
