Q&A with Southern Nevada Commit Tyce O'Neill

By Jeff Markle
Assistant State Director of Scouting

PBR Colorado is continuing it's look at committed players and recently we had a chance to catch up with Southern Nevada commit, Tyce O'Neill.  The 6-foot-3, 165-pound left handed senior pitcher for ThunderRidge High School got his feet wet last year with 6 appearances.  This year, O'Neill will be a mainstay in the Grizzlies pitching rotation, the 82-84 mph throwing tall lefty will be counted on heavily to continue the winning ways of this tradition rich program.

PBR: Why did you choose Southern Nevada?

O’Neill: I chose Southern Nevada because they have a really strong baseball program and are very good at pushing players on to play at the division one level or to pro ball.

PBR: Where did CSN first see you compete?

O’Neill: They first saw me compete at the senior fall classic.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play during your first year on campus?

O’Neill: The coaches say they want me to come in a make an impact right away, but it won't be easy with all the competition that is there with their very strong pitching staff.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help Southern Nevada?

O’Neill:  My biggest strength is my competitiveness and my size.

PBR: What advice would you give about the recruiting process?

O’Neill: To enjoy it, it's a good time and it doesn't last forever.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?

O’Neill: Playing at the National High School Invitational in Cary North Carolina with my high school team.

PBR
: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

O’Neill: Clint Zavaras. He is an awesome coach, he has really high expectations and he always pushes us to be our best every day.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience?

O’Neill: I played for slammers Zavaras. The best experience I had was playing in the big tournaments through out the country and playing the highest level of competition.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced in Colorado?

O’Neill: Well I'm a pitcher so I don't usually hit, but the toughest hitter I've faced is Carl Stajduhar.

PBR: What are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?

O’Neill: My goals for the team are to play to the best of our ability every day and compete day in and day out. Personally my goal is to prepare myself for college and help my team win as many games as possible. Also to be a good roll model to the younger players in our program.
