Prep Baseball Report Colorado is ready to hit the ground running toward 2016 with two major events. The Preseason All-State event at Slammers South will take take place on February 28th. Over the coming weeks, PBR Colorado will continue to introduce you to 2016 and 2017 players who have committed to this event. Continuing our look is No. 5 2016 Quin Cotton, OF, Regis Jesuit High School and Grand Canyon University Commit.
PBR: Describe yourself as a baseball player to those who have never seen you play:
Cotton: I'd describe myself as a very aggressive player at the plate, on the bases, and in the field. I pride myself on playing the game the right way. I'm someone who really loves to play the game and I play hard every day.
PBR: What would be your dream school to play baseball at? If you have already committed to play at the next level, why did you choose that particular school?
Cotton: In September, I committed to Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona. One reason I chose Grand Canyon is the exemplary coaching staff. Coach Stankewitz has a great deal of experience and I truly saw a great deal of opportunity for my development as a player at GCU. Phoenix is obviously a great destination for baseball, so the weather also played a large factor. Lastly, I'd heard nothing but great things about the school and baseball program from Marc Mumper, so he also played a big role in me committing.
PBR: What are your best assets on and off the field at this point in your high school career?
Cotton: I'd say my best asset on the field is my athleticism. Off the field, I'd say that my work ethic in the weight room primarily has helped me to reach the next level as a player.
PBR: What is the best baseball advice you have received and try to follow to this point in your career?
Cotton: My whole life I've always been told to have fun and enjoy playing, but I never really thought much of it until recently. It's important to remember to not take yourself so seriously some times.
PBR: What does your off-season routine look like to prepare for the upcoming season?
Cotton: This off-season I'm at Elite Speed Sports Performance five days a week. I lift on four of those days and hit on all five.
PBR: What are your superstitions or routines that go on during a season?
Cotton: I don't have any personal superstitions, but we always pray together as a team before every game. It's tradition.
PBR: What are your goals for:
This Season: Win a state championship.
Two Years: Start in the outfield at Grand Canyon.
Four Years: Be drafted in the top 10 rounds of the MLB draft.
