The Fall Prospect ID Showcase took place on Sunday October 19th, at Dakota Ridge High School in Littleton, CO. This event featured several talented players in Colorado’s 2015 through 2018 classes. We have already taken a look at Catchers, Corners, MIF, and outfielders.
Jared Bonato RHP/OF ThunderRidge High School 2015
6-foot-2, 165-pound RHP, good pitcher’s frame with projection, uses long arm action through high ¾ arm slot, regular effort in delivery, fastball sat 77-79 mph, with good run onto the hands of a right handed hitter. 62-64 mph curveball is thrown with good arm speed that produces a sharp 11-5 break. A 66 mph change with good downward sink rounds out his three pitches. Bonato showed good command of his pitches and worked both sides of the plate. In the outfield, he moves well on balls both left and right, a very smooth fielder. He uses the same long arm produced a OF velo of 80 mph. At the plate the right handed hitter launches from a balanced stance. Good hands allow him excellent bat control gap to gap. Turns well on the inside pitch and uses an exit velo of 84 mph to drive balls with good backspin and carry.
Austin Liverant, RHP, Mountain Vista High School, 2015
6-foot-4, 185-pound right handed power pitcher. An athletic pitcher who gets the most out of his delivery. Strong leg drive to the plate produced a fastball consistently 80-82 mph and touched 83 twice. Arm angle comes from a high 3/4 slot which gives his ball good run to right handed hitters. Liverant threw a 67 mph curve with tight rotation and sharp 11-6 break. A 70-72 mph change-up rounds out his pitches. Lower body is square through his motion with an in-line landing and good fielding position as pitch crosses the plate.
Nick Morris, RHP, Grandview High School, 2016
6-foot-5, 180-pound right-handed pitcher, with room to grow on his frame. A very projectable pitcher who maxed out at 83 mph during the Fall Prospect Id. The tall right hander had good command of all four pitches and had command of both sides of the plate. Fastball was consistent at 81-83 mph, a 68-69 mph curve with sharp 11-5 break and a 71 mph change with good downward movement. The fourth pitch was a 69 mph slider with good late break. Morris delivers the ball from a high 3/4 arm slot with a long loose arm that creates good whip. Lower body stays in-line and on plane through the delivery.
Zach Sundine, LHP, Grandview High School, 2016
5-foot-9, 142-pound left handed pitcher and outfielder. An athletic player with a live arm, topped out at 80 mph on his fastball and lived 78-79 mph at the showcase. Max effort in his delivery does cause him to fall off to the third base side, but each pitch looks the same in delivery and arm speed. Sundine rounded out his showcase with a 12-6 sharp breaking 67 mph curve and a 72 mph change. Defensively moves well on balls both right and left. Delivers an accurate ball with a long arm and 77 mph outfield velo. At the plate, a 60/40 crouch stance produces good leg drive through the ball and an exit velo of 82 mph. Bat stays in the hitting zone for an extended period of time and drives the ball well to both gaps.
Casey Thompson,RHP/INF/OF, Lakewood, 2016
6-foot, 165-pound lanky right-handed pitcher, left handed hitter. Defensively, threw 73 mph from long, loose, high ¾ to over-the-top arm slot in infield. Showed average hands playing through the baseball. On the mound, fastball sat 77-78 touching 79 mph from the same arm slot as in the infield. Utilizes tall and fall delivery, stride direction falls off to first base side. If he utilizes lower half more and strides out could gain more velocity. 66-69 mph curveball and has a deceptive 70-71 mph changeup thrown for strikes with arm side run.Hits from a balanced setup, with short stride, gets extension with a high finish and line drives from gap-to-gap producing 80 mph exit velocity off a tee.
