Colorado Top Prospect Games: Middle INF Analysis

On August 5th and 6th PBR Colorado hosted their 4th annual Top Prospect Games at historic Cherry Creek High School. 70 prospects from the 2019-2021 classes showed up for the two day event that featured both a pro-style workout and games each day. The other day we started with the Catchers Analysis, then Corners and Outfielders, today we look at the Middle Infielders.

Tyler Shelley SS / RHP / Ponderosa, CO / 2019Rankings State Rank:52 POS:8
5-foot-6, 145-pound left hand hitting SS/RHP/OF who ran a 7.30 60. At the plate he is square with a heavy load to his back side. Weight drives through the zone and he shows quick hands with good whip. Exit velocity was 81 MPH. In the field he has a live arm, he shows good athletic actions fielding through the ball. Arm velocity was 88 MPH from both the infield and outfield. He delivers from a high ¾ arm slot with good accuracy to the base. On the mound he is sound mechanically. From balance he drives to the plate with his lower half and lands in-line on the delivery. Arm slot is over the top and fastball was 84 MPH with good command away. He showed good command of his off-speed as well, 65 MPH curve with 11/5 break and a 76 MPH change with good downward movement.

Amari Smith SS / OF / Grandview, CO / 2019Rankings State Rank:85 POS:13
5-foot-9, 145-pound right hand hitting SS/OF who ran a TPG best 6.85 60. At the plate he has a simple approach. Good balance with a high leg kick for timing. He shows good weight transfer and quick hands through the zone. Exit velocity was 87 MPH. In the field he uses his 6.8 speed to cover ground. He is fluid on balls to the back hand side. He shows a quick transfer and an accurate 77 MPH arm.

Trey Adams SS / 2B / Ralston Valley, CO / 20196-foot-0, 170-pound right hand hitting SS/2B who ran a 7.00 60. At the plate he starts with a wide stance and a slow load to the back side. Hands are lightning quick and swing path is level. During the live round he hit several hard into the left center gap. Exit Velocity was 90 MPH. In the field he is comfortable at either MIF position. He showed good athletic actions and quick hands. He throws from a high ¾ arm slot with a quick release, arm velocity was 83 MPH across the diamond.

Blake Mosenteen SS / OF / Holyoke High, CO / 2020Rankings State Rank:23 POS:8
5-foot-11, 155-pound right hand hitting SS/OF who ran a 7.21 60. At the plate he has a narrow balanced stance. He uses a long stride to get his weight moving forward on the swing. Swing path is up hill and he shows good pull power. Exit velocity was 83 MPH. The 4 sport athlete moves well in the field. He shows good athletic actions and always seems to be in good position. Arm is 75 MPH with accuracy across the diamond.

Greg Deville 2B / SS / ThunderRidge, CO / 2019Rankings State Rank:43 POS:3
5-foot-10, 165-pound right hand hitting MIF who ran a TPG best 6.85 60. At the plate he stands tall and loads slow to the back side. He has good extension out front on contact and the swing path is slightly uphill. Exit velocity was 89 MPH with several hard hit balls both in the live round and the games. In the field he uses his speed and athleticism to cover ground and is very good to his back hand side. He has soft hands and a quick transfer. Arm velocity was 78 MPH across the diamond.

Jack Alley SS / 2B / Cherry Creek High School, CO / 20215-foot-2, 102-pound right hand hitting SS/2B. At the plate he stands open with a high leg kick for timing. Swing path is uphill. He showed good bat control all weekend. Exit velocity was 68 mph. In the field he shows good athletic actions add movement to the glove side. He has good feet and a quick transfer, he delivers from a high 3/4 arm slot. Arm velocity was 63 mph with accuracy.

Hunter Beindorff RHP / 2B / Valor Christian, CO / 2020Rankings State Rank:25 POS:7
5-foot-11, 160-pound right hand hitting 2B/RHP. At the plate he starts with a wide stance. He uses a short stride and quick load to get to his backside. Swing path is slightly uphill. He shows good extension at contact. During the live around he had several balls deep into the gap. Exit velocity was 83 mph. In the field she shows good athletic actions. He rounds the ball well and gets in good throwing position. He has soft hands and a quick transfer. Arm. velocity was 75 mph with accuracy. On the mound he is fundamentally sound. After he gets to balance he drives hard to the plate. He lands in line with Homeplate and delivers from an over-the-top arm slot. Fastball was 78 mph with good command inside and outside. He used a 67 mph curve ball with 11/5 break to keep hitters off-balance. He also showcased a 73 mph change with downward movement.

Daniel Berumen SS / OF / Pueblo South, CO / 20195-foot-8, 148-pound right hand hitting SS/RHP. At the plate he stands open with a high leg kick to get balanced. Swing path is flat through the zone. He does show good pull side power. Exit velocity was 76 mph. During the live around he showed good bat control to all fields. In the field he showed good athletic actions, he does nice job of rounding the ball and he showed soft hands and a quick transfer arm velocity was 75 five mph with accuracy. On the mound he showed good mechanics, gets too a good balance point and falls to the plate. Delivery is in line with the plate. Arm angle is over-the-top. Fastball 176 mph with good location down and in. He also had a 69 mph curve with 11/5 break.

Lane Brownell SS / RHP / Douglas County, CO / 20205-foot-8, 133-pound right hand hitting SS/RHP. The plate he starts open with a high leg kick. Lower body drives hard through the zone. Swing path is uphill and creates a ball with good carry. Exit velocity was 73 mph and he showed good back control all weekend. In the field he shows good instincts and anticipation. He has soft hands and a quick transfer. Arm velocity was 71 mph with accuracy from shortstop. On the mound he has a high balance point and glides to the plate. Arm is short and over-the-top. Fastball was 74 mph with good command away in the zone. He also had a 64 mph curve ball with sweeping 11/5 break.

Logan Cass SS / 2B / Legend , CO / 20215-foot-1, 100-pound right hand hitting MIF. At the plate he starts with a wide stance. He uses a quick load and lift in place stride to start his swing. Swing path is level through the zone with good extension out front. Exit velocity was 63 mph. In the field he shows good anticipation and instincts. He doesn’t nice job of getting into a proper throwing position and delivers an accurate 66 mph ball across the diamond.

Dominic Cordova 2B / RHP / Denver East, CO / 20205-foot-9, 135-pound right hand hitting 2B/RHP. At the plate he starts balanced and uses a quick stride and fast load of the hands on the pitch. Swing path is level through the zone, he shows strong weight transfer and hits off a firm front side. Exit velocity was 76 mph. In the field he showed soft hands and a quick transfer. He moves well on the ball to his backhand side and delivers a strong accurate. throw across the diamond. Arm velocity was 73 mph. On the mound he coils on his balance and then sinks and drives to the plate. He lands in line with the plate delivery is over-the-top. Follow-through takes him to the first base side. Fastball will 71 mph and he added a 62 mph slider with good backdoor movement.

Hayden Farmer RHP / SS / Bayfield , CO / 20196-foot-3, 170-pound right hand hitting SS/RHP. At the plate he stands tall and balanced. He has a short stride and load on the pitch. Swing path is uphill and during the live round he hit several balls into the left center gap. Exit velocity was 79 MPH. In the field he covers good ground with a few strides. He has soft hands and delivers from a high ¾ arm slot. Arm velocity was 78 MPH across the diamond. On the mound he is mechanically sound with a high balance point and a sink and drive delivery. Fastball was 78 MPH from an over the top arm slot with good command in on the hitter. He used a 69 MPH curve to keep hitters off balance during his two innings of work.

Owen Hoal 2B / RHP / Buena Vista , CO / 20195-foot-11, 150-pound right hand hitting 2B/RHP. At the plate he is balanced with a slow load to the back side. Exit velocity was 78 MPH and swing path is slightly uphill. Weight slides through the zone at contact. In the field he showed good actions and anticipation. He does a nice job of getting in good throwing position with a solid transfer. Arm velocity was 72 MPH. On the mound he falls forward just before he gets to balanced. Arm is over the top and he does a nice job of keeping the same arm speed on all pitches. Fastball was 71 MPH with good location away. Curveball was 64 MPH with sweeping 11/5 break.

Liam Leece SS / RHP / Legend, CO / 20206-foot-0, 155-pound right hand hitting SS/RHP. At the plate he stands tall and uses a double stride for timing. He loads hard on the back side and then weight explodes through the zone at contact. Swing path is uphill and he has good extension out front. Exit velocity was 77 MPH. In the field he moves well to the ball both left and right. His quick transfer gets him in good throwing position and he delivers an accurate ball from an over the top slot. Arm velocity was 77 MPH.

Ethan Mackintosh SS / OF / Cherokee Trail, CO / 2020Rankings State Rank:28 POS:9
5-foot-10, 145-pound right hand hitting SS/RHP/OF. At the plate he is balanced with a wide open set up. He has a high leg kick to come square and he drive hard onto his front side. Swing path is uphill and his ball has good carry to it. Exit velocity was 80 MPH. Defensively he showed well both at short and in the outfield. He uses the same athletic actions to cover ground and get rid of the ball quickly. Arm from right was 86 MPH and from short was 82 MPH with accuracy. On the mound he explodes to the plate from the balance position and shows a quick over the top arm to the hitter. Fastball was 77 MPH and he works the inner 1/3rd very well. He added a 69 MPH curve with sharp 11/5 break.

Bryce Parsons SS / OF / Regis Jesuit, CO / 2020Rankings State Rank:13 POS:3
5-foot-11, 170-pound right hand hitting SS/OF who ran a 6.90 60. At the plate he starts open and slightly crouched. He uses a high leg kick to load on his back side and then drives through the zone at contact. Strong pull side power with an uphill swing path. Exit velocity was 83 MPH. He showed well in the field all weekend. He moves with good anticipation and is fundamentally sound. Soft hands and a quick transfer produced a 77 MPH throw across the diamond.

Cael Porter SS / 3B / Ponderosa, CO / 20215-foot-9, 140-pound right hand hitting SS/3B. At the plate he is open and stand tall. Uses a high leg kick to load on his back side and come square. Lower half drives through the zone and he showed good bat control to all fields. Exit velocity was 76 MPH. In the field he plays confident up the middle. He moves well to the back hand side and showed good feet on the slow roller. Arm is over the top and 76 MPH across the diamond.
