Scout Blog: Arkansas Oklahoma Challenge

The Arkansas Oklahoma Challenge is a 14 team tournament with teams from Arkansas and Oklahoma. I will be scouting games at the University of Arkansas Fort Smith on Thursday and Friday. I’ll move to Greenwood High School for Saturday’s games. Below you will find notes on players who stood out to me at various games throughout the week end.

2020 MIF John Vines Satterfield, Catholic HS, (Sticks Baseball 2020)
Satterfield is 5-foot-6 150-pound middle infielder with an athletic frame and a normal build. He played through baseball with fluid footwork, a normal exchange and an accurate arm. Offensively he showed a compact swing, with a feel for the barrel as he made consistent hard contact throughout the week end. He starts from an athletic stance with a minimum load stride combination. He uses a slight downhill swing as he finishes with balance throughout.

2020 CIF Dakotah Peters, Van Buren HS, (FSBA)
Peters is a 6-foot-1 180-pound corner infielder with a large frame and an average build. He impressed with his offensive presence. He starts from a tall stance, with a short stride, he attacks the baseball with fast bat speed and feel to hit. Defensively he was solid making the routine plays as he played through the baseball with normal actions. Overall Peters is a large player with a projectable build and showed advanced offensive skill and presence.

2020 Hayden Seldomridge, C, Rogers HS (Perfect Timing Blue 15U)
Seldomridge is a 6-foot 175-pound catcher with an athletic frame and build. He showed advanced arm strength throwing out runners. Defensively he uses an athletic stance, and blocks and receives with adequate effort and technique. Offensively he has showed a line drive swing with advanced bat speed. Overall a player with an advanced tools, and production on the week end.

2020 Jay Watson, LHP, Rogers HS, (Perfect Timing 15U)
Watson is a 6-foot 170-pound lefthander with an athletic frame and build. He showed advanced fastball command at 74-77 mph. He complimented the fastball with a curveball 62-65 mph with 1/7 action and late break. He works from H ¾ with a loose clean arm action. He repeats his simple tilt topple delivery with fluid rhythm and a balance throughout. Overall Watson is a projectable left-hander with a quick arm and a feel for the strike zone.

2019 RHP Mathew Gephardt, Catholic HS (SBA Brownmiller)
Gephardt is a 5-11 165-pound right-hander with an athletic frame and a thin build. He commanded the strike zone with a fastball 76-79 mph. He also located a curveball 65-68 mph with an 11/5 action and early break. He repeats a simple drop and drive delivery. He pitches from H ¾ arm slot with average arm speed and a clean arm slot. Overall Gephardt is a solid athlete with a feel for the strike zone.

2020 C/CIF Sam Golden, Bentonville HS (Perfect Timing Blue 15U)
Golden is a 6-foot 210-pound corner infielder with a large frame and an average build. He showed advanced bat speed as he drove the baseball for multiple extra base hits on the week end. He starts from an athletic stance, he use a simple load stride and attacks the baseball with fast bat speed and an uphill swing. Defensively he played through the baseball with fluid footwork, a normal exchange and a quick arm from a high ¾ arm slot which showed accuracy and carry. Overall Golden shows advanced strength, with a feel to hit and promising tools as a defender.

2020 LHP Luke Carter, Rogers HS (Perfect Timing Grey 15U)
Carter is a 6-foot 175-pound left-hander with a large frame and an average build. He pitched from a low ¾ arm slot with a short arm action. He competed in the strike zone with a fastball which worked 74-77 mph with late arm side run. He competed with a curveball thrown 62-64 mph with 1/7 action and early break. He only allowed 1 hit through 5 innings of work but struggled with command at times. Overall Carter has advanced movement on his fastball that creates swing and miss.

2020 MIF Gabe Fennell, Booneville HS (FSBA)
Fennell is a 5-8 150-pound infielder with an athletic frame and build. He played through the baseball with an advanced actions, a quick exchange and an accurate arm. Offensively he starts from an athletic stance, he uses a short stride and a compact line drive swing. Overall Fennell is an advanced defender to watch as he continues to mature and improve.

2020 RHP Jake Presley, Greenwood HS (Sticks Baseball 2020)
Presley is a 6-foot-4 180-pound right-hander with large frame and thin build. He commanded the strike zone allowing 1 run in 3 1/3 innings. He works from a ¾ arm slot with a clean arm action. He uses a tilt and topple delivery which repeated consistently allowing him to command the strike zone. Overall Presley is a projectable player with advanced arm strength that should be followed as he continues to grow into his frame. 

 

2019 Brayden Withrow, LHP, Sylvan Hills HS, (SBA Brownmiller)
Withrow is a 5-foot-7 150-pound left-hander with an athletic frame and a thin build. He pitched 4 innings in a win. His fastball worked 73-76 mph with slight cut. He complimented his fastball with curveball thrown 61-64 mph with late break. His steady two pitch mix kept hitters off balance. Mechanically he repeats his delivery consistently and uses consistent rhythm. Overall Withrow has advanced pitchability with two strikes, he will continue to get better as he adds strength.

2019 Hunter Nay, C, Pulaski Academy, (SBA Brownmiller)
Nay is 5-foot-11 170-pound catcher  with an athletic frame and average build. He catches from an athletic stance, shows adequate effort and technique blocking and receiving. He has an elongated exchange, with average arm strength and shows accuaracy to the bag. Offensivley he starts from an athletic stance he uses a minumuim load stride combination with a line drive swing and average bat speed. He showed his ability to barrel balls up on a triple. Overall Nay is a solid catcher with a feel for the barrel.

2019 McKaden Templeton, RHP, Rogers HS, (PT Blue 15U)
Templeton is a 5-foot-10 165-pound right-hander with an athletic frame and build. He commanded the strike zone consistently with his fastball 82-84 mph, with slight sink. He complimented his fastball with a sharp 10/4 slider with late break 72-74 mph. He uses repeated mechanics consistently with a tall finish. Overall Templeton is a solid right-hander with average arm speed an advanced feel to pitch.

2020 Beau Stuckey, MIF, Fayetteville HS, ( PT Blue 15U)
Stuckey is a 5-foot-9 145-pound middle infielder with an athletic frame and build. He showed quick twitch actions consistently. He plays through the baseball with fluid footwordk a quick exchange. He throws from H ¾ arm slot with a quick arm produces an arm that shows carry with accuracy. Offensively he was sound with a line drive swing, more notes are needed for full report. Overall Stuckey is a player ho profiles to stay at short stop as the game advances.

2020 Dakotah Peters, C, Van Buren HS, (FSBA)
Peters is a 6-foot-1 180-pound catcher with an athletic frame and build. He impressed with his advanced offensive skill set. He starts from an athletic stance, he uses a simple load stride combination. He attacks the baseball with fast bat speed with a line drive swing. He showed a feel for the barrel with loud contact consistently throughout their two games. Overall Peters is a good athlete with arm strength, advanced offensive tools and a projectable build.

2020 Brayden Ross, RHP, Charleston HS, (FSBA)
Ross is a 6-foot-3 220-pound right-hander, with a large frame and a strong build. He impressed with his competiveness and his large frame. He worked consistently in the strike zone scattering 4 hits throughout the contest in a win. He pitches from a H ¾ arm slot with some stiffness to his arm action. Overall Ross is a large projectable right-hander who competes in the strike zone.

2020 Van Tobal, (Perfect Timing Red 16U)
Tobal is a 6-foot 175-pound athlete with an athletic frame and build. He showed pull power driving a home run to left-field. More details as I gather more information.

2019 RHP Landon McAllister, Har-Ber HS, (PT Blue 15U)
McAllister is a 6-foot-1 175-pound right-hander with an athletic frame and build. He commanded the strike zone with a fastball which worked 84-86 mph up to 87. He also located a slider 76-79 mph with late 10/4 break which devastated hitters. He uses consistent rhythm and mechanics. He works from a H ¾ arm slot with a quick clean arm action. Overall McAllister is a solid athlete with a feel for two advanced pitches.

2020 RHP Matthew Watson, Rogers HS, (PT Blue 15U)
Watson is a 6-foot-5 200-pound right-hander with a large frame and an average build. He commanded the fastball at 82-85 mph with a late sink. He worked consistently in the strike zone. Overall he is intriguing prospect with his size and arm action.

2018 MIF Kevin Collyar, Oklahoma Christian, (Sandlot Hinkley)
Collyar is a 5-foot-8 170-pound infielder with an athletic frame and build. He continues his solid week end, showing consistent loud contact. He has recorded hits in multiple games I have watched. Defensively he plays through the baseball with fluid footwork and a normal exchange and an accurate arm. He starts from an athletic stance, with a simple line drive swing with advanced bat speed. Overall Collyar is a solid infielder with an advanced feel to hit.

2019 CIF/C Emmanual Duran, Broken Arrow HS, (Sandlot Wrona)
Duran is a 6-foot-1 240-pound catcher with a large frame and a normal build. He caught well in game one, and showed well at first base in game two, both games he showed a feel for the barrel and raw pull power. He starts from an athletic stance with loud back and slight hand load. He attacks the baseball with a slight uphill bat path. Overall Duran is an advanced hitter with a large frame that is projectable.

2018 RHP Jake Adams-Bethany HS- (Sandlot Hinkley)
Adams is a 6-foot-3 190-pound right-hander with an projectable frame and an athletic build. He worked 2 innings for Sandlot Hinkley, throwing his fastball 85-87 mph with slight sink. He used a cutter as his secondary pitch at 79-80 mph. He used a simple delivery which was repeated consistently. He was inconsistent with his rhythm which caused him to be erratic at times. Overall an intriguing prospect due to size and raw arm speed.

2018 MIF Colton Bertus-Deer Creek HS- (Sandlot Hinkley)
Bertus is a 5-foot-9 165-pound middle infielder with an athletic frame and build. He showed an advanced feel to hit, as hit recorded a 3 RBI triple and single on the day. He started from a slightly open stance with a simple load stride combination, remaining open. He attacked the baseball with fast bat speed and a line drive swing. Defensively he showed an accurate and some quickness. Overall Bertus showed an advance feel to hit with solid athleticism

2019 RHP Jamison Clardy-Har-ber HS - (Perfect Timing)
Clardy is a 5-foot-10 165-pound right hander with an athletic frame and average build. He competed in the strike zone with a fastball which worked 75-76 mph and curveball that was 69-70 mph with 11/5 action and gradual break. He pitched from a H ¾ arm slot with average arm speed. He used simple mechanics and repeated allowing him to command the strike zone. Overall Clardy is a right-hander with a feel for the strike zone, he will improve as he continues to add strength.

2019 C Josh Rhoades- Shiloh Christian HS (Perfect Timing)
Rhoades is a 5-foot-9 190-pound catcher with a wide frame and a physical build. He catches from an athletic stance maintaining proper glove angles. He shows consistent effort blocking and adequate skill. Offensively, he showed a feel for the barrel hitting an RBI double. He worked from an athletic stance with a simple load stride and average bat speed. OVerall Rhoades is a sound defensive catcher with a feel to hit.

2019 RHP Logan Funderburg-Mayflower HS (Maximuim Impact)
Funderburg is a 6-foot-2 170-pound right-hander with an athletic frame and build. He competed in the strike zone with a fastball which worked 72-76 mph from a H ¾ arm slot. He used a clean arm action with average arm speed. He competed consitently in the strike zone, complimenting his fastball with  curveball thrown 62-64 mph with 11/5 action. Overall Funderburg has some projection with his arm action and overall build.

2020 Trey McKim-Glen Rose HS ( Maximum Impact)
McKim is a 5-foot-10 165-pound athlete with an athletic frame and build. He showed fast bat speed in a line drive swing on the day. Highlighted by an RBI triple to push Maximum Impacts lead. He starts with an athletic stance with a simple load stride, and slight arm bar, he attacks the baseball with fast bat speed. Overall McKim looks to have an idea at the plate and will be a player to watch as the week end moves forward.

2019 LHP Zac Morris-Cabot HS ( Sticks Baseball 2019)
Morris is a 6-foot-2 230-pound left-hander with a wide frame and an athletic build. He pitched 84-86 mph with erratic fastball command but competed enough to pick up the win. He complimented his fastball with a curveball throw 66-69 mph with 1/7 action and late break. He used simple mechanics with some timing issues. Overall Morris is a projectable player with a quick and feel to compete consistently.

2019 OF Brandon Ulmer- Booneville HS ( Sticks Baseball 2019)
Ulmer is a 5-foot-10 170-pound outfielder with an athletic frame and build. Ulmer showed a bevy of tools. Offensively he showed a compact swing with a feel for the barrel.Offensively he starts from an a slight open stance striding back into the plate, he attacks the baseball with fast bat speed using a line drive swing, maintaining balance throughout. He showed advanced run tools on a triple and defensively on balls in the air. He showed arm strength and accuracy while he threw out a runner at home. Overall Ulmer is an advanced underclassmen with multiple advanced tools.

2019 MIF James Dunlap- Bishop Kelly HS ( Sandlot Wrona)
Dunlap is a 6-foot-1 165-pound middle infielder with an athletic frame and build. He was a productive player picking up two hits including a an RBI triple. He starts from an athletic stance, he uses a simple load stride combination as he sets into his legs. He attacks the baseball with a line drive swing that shows the ability work back to back. Defensively he played through the baseball with an accurate arm. Overall Dunlap is a solid athlete with a feel to hit, a player that will turn heads as he continues to hit.

2019 LHP Tad Jones- Huntsville HS ( Maximum Impact)
Jones is a 6-foot 165-pound with an athletic frame and thin build. He competed in the strike zone with a fastball which worked 73-76 mph from a ¾ arm slot with a some stiffness. His fastball had late cut action. He used repeated mechanics consistently with a simple delivery. Overall Jones is a projectable left-hander with a feel to pitch.
