Coming off a solid junior season in which he helped Fayetteville advance to the 7A state championship game, RHP/INF Cody Davenport recently announced his commitment to the University of Central Arkansas.

We had a chance to visit with Davenport regarding his decision and several other topics:

PBR: Ultimately, why did you choose the University of Central Arkansas?

Davenport: I felt like Central Arkansas was the best overall fit for me. I couldn't see a disadvantage, between the great coaching staff, academics, and baseball program. As well as it was a place I feel like I can contribute and I fit in the program.

PBR: Where did they first see you compete?

Davenport: They first saw me at their prospect camp in the summer before my junior year.

PBR:  When did you take your first official visit University of Central Arkansas?

Davenport: I took my first official in late September of my senior year. But went on an unofficial in October of my junior year.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Davenport: I think that they accept me to contribute as both an outfielder and an arm.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Davenport: I considered other schools such as Arkansas State, UALR, Harding, Arkansas, and a few junior college options.

PBR: Who did you play for this summer? Talk about your experience playing for them?

Davenport: I played for the Rawlings Prospects-Strong. And enjoyed my time with them, I played with a lot of guys that played all out all the time. And that's the way I love to play. As well as my coaches did everything they could to get me in front of good coaches and programs.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Davenport: I would say that my parents have been huge in how much they have supported me and my dad has helped me train in any way that he could. But another huge person in my developing as a player was Tom Pagnozzi. He was my coach from the time I was 10 until I was 16 years old, and he continues to help me today.

PBR: What were your stats for your High School last spring?

Davenport: .423 batting average, 104 at bats, 44 hits, 16 doubles, 5 home runs 28 RBIs, .469 on base percentage. 4-1, 1.90 era, 33IP, 9ER, 37SO, 15BB, .220 opposing BA

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter you've faced in Arkansas?

Davenport: I'd have to say the toughest hitter I've thrown against in Arkansas is my long time teammate Grant Koch. He is my catcher most of the time, but throwing against him in inner squads, and other events and show cases, he is a very polished hitter. You don't want to make a mistake!
