June 13, 2015
Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director
As the summer kicks off and all eyes turn to the 2016 class we look at the top available players in this class position by position. Here is a look at the top 5 uncommitted infielders
Ty Kosters, CIF, Arkadelphia HS
Kosters is a 5-foot-10, 220-pound 3B with a wide shoulders and a physical build. One of the more imposing bats in this class, with major pull power. He starts from an athletic stance, with a smooth transition, attacking the ball with fastball speed, and an uphill bat path. He maintains balance through extension. Defensively, he has some stiffness as he plays through the baseball. He has a strong arm with an average release. To show arm strength he was 84-86 mph on the mound in 4A State Championship game in the spring. Athletically he has good first step, but not overly fast, 4.4-4.6 home to first times. Overall Kosters is a college bat that can adequately play third base or move to the outfield.
Joe Myers, MIF, Catholic HS
Myers is a 6-foot-2 180-pound middle infielder with a large frame and an athletic build. He defends with a quick first step and soft hands as he plays through the baseball. He has an average exchange and an accurate arm with carry. Offensively he is a sound hitter with doubles power, as he adds strength he enough bat speed to hit the ball out of the yard on a semi-consistent basis. Myers can get long and rotational at times, if he stays inside the baseball a solid hitter. He plays short-stop for his high school, depending on program needs he can survive at short –stop but I see him transitioning to third base as his career continues.
Cooper King, MIF, Harrison HS
King is a 5-foot-8, 185-pound middle-infielder with a medium frame and a physical build. Offensively he has a compact swing with a line drive bat path, and good bat speed. He produces exit velocities of 86 mph at Arkansas Top Prospects Games. Defensively he has soft hands and smooth actions as he plays through the baseball. He has a quick exchange with an accurate arm with carry. Athletically average with first step quickness and good lateral movement. Overall King seems to be a hardnosed kid that enjoys playing the game and is very sound at all phases of the game. My overall assessment from this year is the more I have watched him the more impressed I become due to the consistent play.
Harrison Rutledge, MIF, Maumelle HS
Rutledge is a 6-foot, 165-pound middle infielder with an athletic frame and a thin build. He is a good athlete running a 6.85 in the 60 at Arkansas Top Prospects Games. Defensively his athletically ability shows well, raw mechanically but has soft hands and quick exchange. Offensively, he produced exit velocities of 87 mph, he has a short swing with balance through extension. He drops his hands with a flat bat path. Overall Rutledge is a raw player with above average athletic ability, as he matures, adds strength, and gets more at bats he has the ability to turn into a very good collegiate player.
Cutter Jester, MIF, Arkadelphia HS
Jester is a 5-foot-10 170-pound middle infielder, with an athletic frame and build. Athletically well above average running a 6.7 in the 60. Defensively he is a polished defender with smooth actions, soft hands, and quick exchange with an average arm. Offensively he out athletes the ball, competing at the plate, and finding a way on base. A lead off approach and production through his high school career thus far. I would like to see him refine his skills offensively and attack the ball with better bat speed. Overall a collegiate short-stop with questions about offensive production at the next level.
