Alabama Scout Blog: Elite 8 Edition

Prep Baseball Alabama Staff

The Prep Baseball Alabama Scout Blog provides insider information and scouting notes from the Prep Baseball Scouting Staff during the season. This running blog will feature information on underclass prospects, unsigned seniors, draft prospects and anything else that is notable. We will provide a wide range of information, including player evaluations, velocities, pop times, home to first times and much more.

Today, we take a look at some notable prospects our staff saw during the Final 4 series of the Class 7A-1A playoffs last week.

+ RHP/3B Caleb Barnett (Mountain Brook, 2025) is well-known for his two-way abilities and has already been featured in the scout blog in the playoffs a few weeks back, but the arm talent lands him on this edition of the piece after a dominant outing against one of the better lineups in the state. Listed at 6-foot-5, 215-pounds, the Alabama recruit is a long, projectable prospect with true two-way capabilities. Starting in Game 2 of the series, the right-hander sat in the upper-80's conisistently while dealing with a nagging injury, but still bumped 89 mph a handful of times. Against a heavy left-handed lineup, the feel to land the low-70s breaking ball to the back-door was elite, and was what really made him successsful during the outing. Can also turn over a changeup too, but possessed excellent for spin in the outing. High pitch-ability right-hander who projects to continue to see jumps in velocity. Also belted a missile off the scoreboard in LF for a home run, and walked in his other four plate appearances. The No. 1 prospect in the 2025 class in Alabama.
