6/11/19

Johnson comes in with a medium sized frame at 6-foot, 160-pounds, room for more physicality, right-handed hitting shortstop and outfielder. Defensively, arm works short and loose from a predominantly over-the-top slot., 78 across the infield, 80 from the outfield. Fields position with a soft glove, clean on transfers, utilizes a step behind crow hop in the outfield, packs glove on occasion. Offensively, takes a narrow setup, long strides, low hands load back, lower half thrusts with some collapse, remains balanced. Line drive type hitter, barrel works level through the zone, 82 mph exit velocity off a tee. Ran a 7.22 60.

Johnson has a high-waisted, still developing frame at 5-foot-10, 153-pounds. Ran a 7.14 60-yard dash with long strides. The right-handed hitter starts from a tall, slightly open stance, then loads smooth as he triggers his hands down, tilting his shoulders forward, taking a relaxed stride and slotting the barrel into the zone early. Barrel works on an uphill plane as he transfers his weight into a firm front side. Quick hands with good strength for his class produced mostly ground balls during BP with a top exit velocity of 82 mph. Johnson has smooth footwork on the infield as he plays through the ball with soft hands, and throws with a clean arm swing and top velocity of 73 mph across the diamond.
